Thanks for the camping and upholstery tips. I was actually thinking our first campout will be in the driveway!

While my husband is moving quickly on repairs, I don't think we'll be ready by April. I'm hoping for a summer trip, ideally at El Capitan, north of Goleta. Unfortunately it is already booked, but I think they have some spaces for early arrivals. Malibu would be nice, too.

Let's keep each other posted. It appears previous owners attended a couple of rallies. We found this on the inside of the door:

There is also a new campground near refugio that has great views from the Ocean Premium sites. They have great facilities and it will mature nicely, right now the trees are pretty small. Also if you need more fabric Michael Levine in downtown LA has some great retro prints

Natalie,
Judging from you interior photos, your trailer looks much like a 1964, rather than a 1961. The molded fiberglass bath fixtures were introduced in 1964, so was the quilted bedroom ceiling.
If you can post your serial number, then we should be able to decipher what it is you actually have.
It is a nice trailer nonetheless, a perfect size for travel and also for "staying a while".

Hmmmm, the vehicle registration documents that say 1961. ID# 142S4073. The framed plate by the door is pretty hard to read, I could make out "Santa Fe Springs". I tried to take a picture, but guess what? Total glare! Maybe daylight would work better.

Not that it matters that much, your trailer is as lovely as a 61 as it would be as a 64.
One way to tell for sure would be to see if it has leaf spring axles or torsion axles. Torsion axles were used from 62 on, leaf spring axles until 62.
So, if you have leaf spring axles, then my theory of your trailer being a 64 is all shot to pieces....now we need a historian to pick up the serial number and make sense of it all.

Thanks, Uwe. We went back out to check and found 6404 stamped under the vin. I was looking on another website and it seems that this may mean April 1964, so you may well be right.

Which now means that I am older than our airstream.

As for whether we have leaf spring or torsion axles, we don't even know how to open the doors to the water tanks!

Guess I'll go change the profile now...

Hi Natalie: Uwe is correct, your 24' Trade Wind is a 1964 model as shown by the 5 end cap panels, the fiberglass airliner bathroom ('64 is the first year for it) and the door-within-a-door ('64 is the last year for that feature). As you have now discovered, the build date is April 1964, further confirming it is a 1964 model, one of my favorite years. I'm also older than any of my trailers, so don't sweat that issue. Finding one to be younger than would really stress Mr. Peabody's "Way Back Machine".

Welcome Natalie, you'll find out that these people know their stuff. I'm still learning and can't help too much, but I've got a 3" pile of printed threads pointing me which way to go. I empathize with your hubby...I could even teach him some of the new cuss words I've coined over the last year. Still, I'm trying to figure out why my wife is in a quandry over the upholstery to select while I'm at this stage...

Oh, man. That is too funny! Well, I finally got in there and did help with staining some of the cabinets while he shaved some rivets. It was a lovely afternoon!

And, I might add that yesterday I spent about three hours calculating yardages & scouring Michael Levines for the right fabric. And found some good canvas for $2/yard. Made the $10 for parking worth it!

I think I saw tour buses there (LA's garment district), so maybe if you really want to keep you wife busy you can send her out here to shop for fabric.

Hi again Natalie! It's nice to hear you're having such fun. Personally, I get my fabric from eBay. My last was 35yds of silk for $30 and $20 of that was postage! My wife doesn't do Airstream technical, she likes to turn up and get a Jack thrust into her hand! Lol! But that's just fine, she can unblock drains and pressure wash the patio which is a time credit to me and Moonstruck!

IF you get there early! We didn't get there until about 10:30 and the lot was full.

Having some trouble with the site tonight. I wanted to post an "almost after" - not quite done with the wood work, but my husband trimmed out the cabinets with aluminum and it looks great! Thanks! Our neighbor sold us the table a few years ago. We used it as a kitchen table for a while and then moved it out to the garage, where it had been on its side and not being of much use. It's nice to have a new home for it, but unfortunately we had to take off the curvy legs.

But we're like its new incarnation!
