I too, am a retired teacher only I have been retired for 10 years after having taught Business Education and Computer Science at the Junior-Senior High School level for 28 years. My Airstream was a splurge when I was in my mid-30s, and I have kept that trailer for 30 years now. Before you know it, you will have traveled for decades in your Airstream. I have never been bold enough to go full-time, but I travel as much as time and budget allow.
One suggestion that I might make is to consider joining the
Wally Byam Caravan Club International (WBCCI)/Airstream Club International (ACI) as this is a good way to meet your fellow Airstream owners wherever you travel. As a member, you are eligible to participate in Unit campouts and activities wherever you travel on a space available basis. You can choose to be a Member at Large where you do not choose to join a local Unit (slightly higher International dues for this option) or you can choose any Unit that appeals to you as your "home" unit. In addition to the Unit rallies, there are State, Regional, National, and the annual International Rally that will be in York, Pennsylvania this year (end of August). Beyond rallies, there are Caravans that are led by member Volunteers who take leadership training at the International Rally, and then arrange Caravans to all sorts of interesting destinations where the Caravan Kitty Fee covers the costs of camping, many of the admissions, and often provide access to attractions that may not be available to solo travelers. Then there are also members who offer Courtesy Parking to fellow members who are traveling near them, and there are Airstream Only Parks owned by Units of the Club where traveling members can rent a spot at quite reasonable rates when traveling through. There are also 10 Intra-Clubs or clubs within the International Organization that represent some of the interests shared by members. I have been a member since 1995, and became a Lifetime member in 2005 as I found that I received so much value from the Club. There is a tremendous amount of camaraderie within the club, and over the years, I have made many friends whom have become like an extended family.
Good luck with your Flying Cloud 25, and Safe Travels!!
