Talking aluminum in the backwoods

Greetings from rural west central oregon, Honored Airstreamers:

Like the newbie couple from Canada, we too have recently acquired a 1970 Tradewind 25'. Our cost $300 US, and we towed it home to the woods from Eugene only 50 miles. (Did Great!). We'll be putting up a page about our progress soon.

Short synopsis; we live in an intentional community with a main lodge house, our "Loaf" as we call it, will function mainly as a private retreat/bedroom/recording studio. Exterior OK, but has a bad dent on top, looks like tree damage. The interior was in fair condition, but not suited to our intended purposes. We did not doing a complete gut, but rather clean out the furnishings for a radical remodel. Someone else had done a lot of cheesy attempts at changing things around, we figured it would be better to start fresh. We have left the walls intact. all the window glass and screens are there but we need some of those bracket things that hold thie window levers up. No evidence of rodents or insects, some leaks and floor rot. Randy is a tradesman and tinkerer, we need to learn to apply his skills to this new environment; for example he 's never worked with aluminum or rivets. Be a newbie all over again!

We have removed the Univolt, toilet, black tank, water heater and Magic Chef cookstove, these are free to anyone who want to come and get them. We're keeping the Dometic fridge and Suburban furnace. I have no idea if any of this stuff works, it looks like it ought to. Other interior items have been recycled into other uses. We have a lot of questions, but i guess should read the forums and past threads well first so as not to clutter up bandwidth.

ok enuff already!

Welcome LL (from another Oregonian),
We've driven thru Swisshome going to Florence from Corvallis via Triangle Lake. Scenic drive and lots of curves! If you have a chance to come the Beverly Beach rally in Oct, I think it would be well worth your time. Lots of vintage aluminum and great folks to meet!
Sounds like you got your TW for next to nothing, but will have a lot invested (time & $) before you hit the road.
Look forward to meeting you both!

Question Newbies @ Oregon AS Rally?

Someone who knows where Swisshome is! Wow! We're actually 8 miles from Swisshome on an even tWiStY-er gravel road, makes moving trailers interesting!
We'd love to come to an AS Rally, we're familiar with Beverly Beach by Newport! But we won't have our Tradewind anywhere near road-ready by then. Newbie question... can a person come to a rally, even just to "day-camp" without their AS, to see other people's projects and ideas and talk to the owners and take pictures? I'm very shy but Randy is Mr. Sociability.... i just play guitar.

We went to our first Airstream rally in a SOB (some other brand...) because ours was totally disassembled! We went in our little 1946 teardrop ... everyone was great and welcomed us! If you drive over for the day I am sure you would be welcome if you check in with Janet ahead of time. Check the thread on the Beverly Beach III rally... and e-talk to Janet, the hostess! Saturday night is a great potluck ~ I am sure if you bring a dish to share, your own plates, and chairs you will have a great time! Usually at these events everyone is easy going and fun to be around. There are always impromptu tours of Airstreams and folks are generally glad to have you take a look inside and ask questions!

Welcome to Airstreaming!
