Alaska First-timers

Hello from Anchorage, Alaska! My husband and I are heading to the lower 48 to check out a 2017 25 foot rear bed Flying Cloud AS this weekend. I'm excited and nervous as a cat in a travel trailer!

We've camped in rented motor homes and have discussed purchasing something for years, especially since we moved to Alaska. We don't really like the idea of a motor home because they are noisy and scare our dogs when moving. We also like the idea of being able to set up camp and take the tow vehicle off to town if we want to go. We'll start off with a 2009 Ford F150 Lariat to tow, which we hope will suffice for a bit.

Unfortunately, because we are in Alaska, there aren't any AS dealers who can perform warranty work should something be amiss with the trailer. Any suggestions as to what we should check out on the AS before we ink the contract?

We have a 25' rear twin and love it.

But at the dealer, take your time and sit in various models to find the one that feels best for you.

I'm pretty far from my dealership, about 300 miles. I'm pretty handy and was able to get them to send some stove parts that I used for warranty replacements. By and large my trailer was pretty well built and after 4 years nothing major to complain about. For bigger things you should call Airstream and see if there's an authorized dealer, at least somewhere in Anchorage. Hopefully you'll never need much warranty work.

Have you considered Airstreams are 3 season trailers? Not to say people don't go camping in Airstreams in cold weather, but there are issues with cold weather camping in an Airstream.

The appliances etc. are not Airstream components and are used in many RVs. If you have problem with them- air conditioner, heat, water heater, refridge, water pump, etc., and RV service center can help you.

Yes - we know they are three season. We will probably only be in Alaska a few more years and will hit the lower 48 for some travel. She'll be winterized well and brought out only during our short but glorious summers.
