Question 76 Argosy

Hi I just bought a 1976 Argossy. It's in pretty good shape. Needs cleaning. The water pump leaks around the gasket according to the seller. I haven't taken it out and looked at it. There is a crack above the dinette close to the ceiling. It doesn't have an awning but has a kind of track that looks like you can slide a tarp in it. Any info from anybody on that?

HI and welcome to the forums... That track was designed to take a zip Dee brand awning. They are still made and the zipdee folks have a website. If your crack is in the plastic liner inside the trailer above the dinette.... treat it very gently. Those liners are no longer available. A tiny pinhole drilled just through the plastic (not the outer aluminum skin) at the end of the crack should prevent it from running further.

Check out the Argosy section of this forum for repair and rehab help.... another Argosy - wahooo!

Welcome Argosy. We're always glad to see another one of our beloved Argosys getting some TLC. Use the Search to find most of the information you want about fixing floors or water pumps. The pumps are not expensive and can be purchased at Camping World or most RV stores. Remember your Argosy is the same as the Airstream, just steel end caps and the beautiful cream color. Everything you read about the Airstreams on the forum can transfer to work on the Argosy. I have a 78 Argosy that I'm am restoring. If I can help, let me know. Post pictures of your new trailer.

Steve, Welcome to the forum and it's great to have another forum member here in the valley. Janet was right on about the rail on the top of your trailer. Other brands of awnings were made to fit, but as far as I know, now only ZipDee makes one for the rounded body Airstreams. The good news is that ZipDee makes the best awning, the bad news is that they are not cheap. I just installed one yesterday, and you can see my progress on this thread: http://www.airforums.com/forum...ect-20240.html

I have a 1976 Argosy 24 undergoing remodeling.

We left the grooved awning rail attached to the roof when we removed the old Carefree awning. A new, better Zip Dee will just slide into the same rail.

We also patched cracks in both the front and rear plastic caps with a grey fiberglass filler ( we will repaint the entire interior.)

I worked perfectly. I can't remember the name of the stuff but I will be back where the trailer is next week and can send you the info if you are interested.
