Smile 72 Airstream

I am in the process of renovating a '72, 31 foot Airstream and I need lots of help from you out there. Where I live is a small town where there is not much information on the renovation. My son and I have about torn out the portions which need renovation. We are in the process of cleaning the inside and removing the weatherstripping from the windows so that new can be applied. We have purchased new rubber and glue and weatherstripping for the storm windows. Wow What a job. He is going to remove the belly soon and we will need new rivets if you can tell us what size and where is a good place to purchase them. We will need lots of input and will appreciate anything you can help us with. He is gone much of the week traveling the state and I am almost at a standstill until he gets home. Now it is hunting season too and winter is fast approaching. The people who owned the Airstream prior to us let the water lines freeze and now we need to replace the floor in the bath area which is in the rear. Enough for now, but many thanks for your help. Here is what I did to reattach the belly pan:

1” X 1/8” aluminum flat bar and machine screws available at just about any hardware or big box store.

I think it is easier to work with the flat bar and machine screws as opposed to installing individual rivets.

On the freeze problems – be sure to check out the integrity of all of the belly tanks while you have the belly pan off. You may find some of the plastic tanks and/or valves damaged due to freeze.

Welcome to the FORUMS Betty,
If you have a Fastenal franchise in your area, they can get or have in stock, many types of rivets. They also sell Vulkem and Parbond sealant.
