'54 Wally Byam Holiday & '50 Flying Cloud Newbies

Hello everybody. We are new vintage trailer fanatics. In December '07, we travelled 1050 miles to pick up our 1st love - a 1954 Wally Byam Holiday. It was one of Wally's brain children after returning from a trek to an international trailer show in Europe. Only about 135 were made and then the line was discontinued. We know of only two others out there. The floor plan was then carried over into the Bubble. (Photos posted on http:\\ - We call him "Wally."

We are in the process of picking up a 1950 Flying Cloud which we will also be restoring. We'd LOVE to see your Flying Cloud photos to help us put this baby back together. We're completely new to this restoration "stuff".

We are married 23 years, have 2 kids (17 and 9 yrs old) and are sure we must be going thru mid-life "crisis" to have fallen so in love with these cuties so quickly. We are looking forward to meeting some of you at the rallies and camp-outs and learning more!

Any suggestions on rebuilding cabinets, etc. for the Flying Cloud? Should we look for a parts-out trailer instead of trying to build them ourselves? We want to restore these beauties the right way. Thanks!

Shannon & Ellen

Welcome to the forums.

I tried to go to the web site you posted but it failed.

That sounds like a very good choice for a vintage trailer fan(atic).

Here is a good place to start for information on vintage airstreams.

Shannon and Ellen,

Welcome... and you've got two very cool trailers there. Was the Holiday the one in Colorado that had a Dodge Power Wagon with it? If so, very nice! For some info, give a listen to Welcome to the Frontpage - The Vintage Airstream Podcast or goto iTunes and search on theVAP. Also, feel free to check out my blog - Sweet Sovereign of the Road

Post some pictures!!!!

Welcome to the forums. WOW, when you jump in, you go right to the deep end.

The link didn't work for me either. Sure like to see those pictures. If you have the opportunity, get yourselves to a rally and check out all of the other vintage units and talk with the owners who can give you personal advise and information on their restorations.

Welcome from me, too (another Flying Cloud enthusiast and fellow Californian). If you want to look at my renovation project there are photos at:

I'll be happy to give you any advice during the process of your project. Let me know.

Corrected link to photo site ...

Yikes! I typed the "slashes" going wrong way - apologies! Try:
Stewart's space - there are plenty pics of "Wally". Although we were told he was in excellent condition, the floor is rotton in the front AND back so we're doing a frame-off (frame is also bent so we'll fix with heavier material). Is there a problem with extending the tongue a little further out or would this be a no-no? It's sure make it nicer for backing up.
Thanks for your responses! We'll be checking out your pics too!
