1963 Bambi in Museum of Modern Art (NYC)
Howdy,
I work for Airstream. As many of you may or may not know, a vintage 63' Bambi is about to be installed in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. This is a big development for Airstream, Inc. and a testament to the timeless, art-world-worthy silver-streamlined designs people have cherished all these years.
It would be great to flood the opening at MoMA with Airstreamers. People who own and love Airstreams are the reason why the Airstream legacy has carried on so long. It would be great to have your support during this very important and interesting chapter in our company's life.
Let me know what you think! I think it would be really fun to get a bunch of people together for this. I'd love to get some feeback.
Thanks!

Glad to meet you, MontanaGuy. I think you have a great idea - we heard that the factory is in the process of restoring one for a museum; I guess this is the one.

Maybe Airstream Co. has already thought of this, but AS could send out a picture postcard announcing the opening to Airstreamers who live in proximity of the museum (within a couple hundred miles?) to let them know about it in the way that artists send out cards announcing the openings of shows and receptions.
With enough time to plan, we might want to make the trip from Boston area to see it. Do you have any details yet?

Excellent idea! We may have to do something like that. In fact, it might be something that will work best electronically.
To that end, would anyone be willing to forward on a promotional piece for this event to the New York-area Airstreamers you know via e-mail if we provided it?

Does airstream give out banners or flags for free Advertising?
If so, where do I get one?

I haven't heard of anything like being given out by the company directly. You might ask a dealer.

When is this happening? We'd like to be there in our 1963 Bambi. It would be long trip for us. Northern California to NYC. I'm a retired Art teacher and Artist. Airstream in the Museum of Modern Art has great meaning to me.
Waiting for more info.

Hi, Don. You can see the Airstream starting March 7. However, the official event at which the Airstream execs and MoMA will be answering questions, having press there, etc. will be April 2, 2007. That's when you'd want to be there. Let me know if you have more questions. I'm trying to get a rally going. Looks like at least one person has committed.

New Information on Museum of Modern Art Airstream
The MoMA in NYC will have the 1963 Bambi on display starting March 7. However, the official opening at which Airstream exexs, MoMA directors, the press, etc. will be there talking about everything is on April 2. If anyone's interested in going, that's when you'd want to be there. I'm trying to start a rally -- see thread in the "Rally" section.
Here's a press release Thor Industries just put out:

They will be installing the exhibit to night after the museum closes and will be completed prior to the normal 10:00 AM opening. Te Bambi will be exibited in the lobby which is the only part of the museum free to the public. Attached is the Wall Plate copy. Will be there sometime tonight after 7:30 for the set-up.
As mentioned, there will be a formal event on April 2.

Airstream MOMA
What is the schedule for the day?
I grew up in NYC and could possibly attend. It would be a blast to see a bunch of Airstreams parked outside the museum. I guess the City hasn't approved anything like that?

Currently NOMA has not released the official press release on the event. Once I get my copy I would be happy to pass it along to the forum. Getting AS's into the City on a Monday morning would be tough and I have no idea where you would park. Could be fun if someone knew someone in City Hall and could aquire a special permit!

Where to Park?
You're right. I hear parking is always a little tight in the Big Apple.
Daydreaming at work as I often do about these important issues I came up with a vision. What about Central Park? It would make a great RV park...
When I was a kid they would close Central Park and kids from all over the City would head up there on their bikes and race around the circle.
I think they still close Central Park on weekends? I'm sure they could find a part of the park somewhere for Airstreams, and MOMA is walking distance...

Rally Discussion
MontanyGuy, If you contact one of the forum Moderators they can link this thread to your Rally listing so this thread will become the formal discussion thread for the Rally as well.
