Mike,
Great to have you join us, always room for another and based on our Data Officer Tom's expert records are you sitting down, awnings in and secured:
The Slide Out Society welcomes Mike and issues S/OS#097.
Hey you got the same year and model as me!
New to the Slide Out? This model was subject to two AS recalls on the brakes for new hoses and inspecting the actuator. Been performed? got questions?
Welcome,
Gary

Hi - I’d like to join this group, please. Thanks to the group’s feedback, I overcame my fear of slide outs and took the leap to purchase “Mildred.” She’s a 2005 30’ Classic S/O. We will be picking her up next week.
I’m gathering all of the accessories and supplies but am uncertain about the TV antenna setup. Is there some sort of universal mount or will I need a custom installation for the HD antenna? Thanks

Welcome Mellie and Mildred! You will love your slide! I know we do!
We use a dish but I’m sure others can help with antenna.
Welcome!

Welcome aboard!
Hi Mellie - Welcome to the group Slider! We're excited for you with the new to you Slide-Out. I've got some intel that Gary S/OS #001 is out Sliding around on an adventure. He'll Slide you out that official S/OS # soon. LoL
We've got a 2008 Classic 30 S/O and it came with a Winegard Sensar TV antenna on the roof just above the entrance door area. I'd make a WAG that yours is probably the same, unless a PO made a change. It folds down flat on the roof when not in use. There's a crank handle on the interior ceiling in the same area to raise and lower the antenna. These are directional so you point it in the direction of the stations. A collar at the crank handle lets you turn the antenna to point it.
We had to replace our antenna head with a newer model to catch digital channels. Ours was original to the trailer and needed to be updated for the DTV conversion. That was a simple and inexpensive ($49) swap that took all of 5 minutes with a ladder. The new unit works great. You can find replacements on Amazon, along with many other options to catch broadcast tv.
Here's to you and Mildred!

Hi Mellie, If you have the original bat wing antenna, it will pick up HD. However, you can add the Wingman to improve the signal. It works just fine for us. https://store.airstream.com/product/winegard-wingman/
Welcome to the group!

Mellie,
Big congrats and keep the questions coming, but business first.
Fresh from a long weekend getaway with my better half and checking Data Officer Tom's file..............Mellie you are S/OS#098
Wahoo!
Don't forget to check your possibles and see if you can make it to Alumaslider II this Oct.
Now one additional TV antenna quirk, look at the dial just above the crank handle, see an arrow on the base and an arrow on the rotator ring? When lined up, safe to lower and raise. If not lined up with antenna up pull down slightly on rotator ring and turn to line up arrows. That puts the mast in the correct position to park it on the roof. Wrong position, not sure how much that'll cost, but one time it cost me a radio antenna.
Not sure if your AS has the TV signal amplifier , consult manual for details.
Safe travels,
Gary

As usual, y’all are helping me prepare to slide right out onto the road with Mildred next week. Thanks again for all of the support.
We are thrilled to officially be “Slider #98!” We look forward to meeting some of y’all at a rally in the near future.
I’m sure I’ll be shouting out for more help after we pick Mildred up next week.

Mellie,
The ball size is the standard 2 5/16" size.
I grease the hitch ball with bearing grease before each coupling. I do all my own maintenance including repacking bearings so I usually have a container of 'extra' grease in my garage. Bearing grease is thick and does not drip. A little goes a long way.
Be sure your hitch is rated to handle the 1,000+ pound tongue weight of a SO. Only a limited number of Class IV hitches are rated for more than 1,000 lbs. You may need a V.

Great idea to grease the ball. That will sure save a lot of extra work.
Good feedback on the hitch too.
Thanks bunches

Unfortunately, that’s a moot point right now. We did the walk through today, discovered a problem with a water leak in an air conditioner and while they were fixing it, a fire almost started. So, we stopped the closing and are awaiting a response from the dealer on the repairs.
It was a sad but good moment. I learned the smoke alarms need to be replaced every 5 years and thankfully, we weren’t caught in an RV that was on fire.
Fingers crossed that everything works out and we are able to get her.

Howdy from DFW. We're original owners of a 2004 30ft Classic and have used it extensively since '04 with travels to most of the USA and Canada. We've remodeled it with new flooring, leather upholstery, Sleep Number bed, roof mounted sat antenna, Hensley Hitch and disc brakes. We love the newer models with two ACs, 8" wider coach and twin beds but don't feel comfy with the techy stuff and complaints from owners we've met on the road to say nothing of the price! A mortgage doesn't appeal either. We have had trouble with bolts breaking on the S/O mechanism but we now have a great vintage repair shop in the northern part of DFW so we feel confident the slide is repaired once and for all. Time will tell.
Happy trails all

We're glad you found us ZoominC6! Welcome to the Slider Registry! I'd love to hear more about your Sleep Number sometime...they seem pretty intriguing but I haven't done any research. Love to hear your comments about how it's worked for you.

ZoominC6,
Welcome to the Slide Out Society, and you can speak for over 14 years of Slide Out experience as original owners.
So greetings to ZoominC6 from home base here in SC on a dreary drizzly but still a Saturday to our DFW TX based newest member.
S/OS#099
Hope you can look at your fall calendar and see if Alumaslider II in NC makes you guys feel like traveling.
