Pete,
You have the Dexter disc brakes, right?
That's one of the few things on these rigs that I'll claim been there done that knowledge.
They are very strong, if you have any questions, bring 'em on.
Pretty sure that rig was subject to two recalls, one for hoses and one for actuator. Easy to review and AF has the info in brakes.
Accept no appreciable delay in braking application TV vs AS.
Minor care and inspection can make the difference between collecting bugs or......

Gary
my 31 had Kodiak brakes with a Dexter actuator. The 34 has Dexter brakes and an Actibrake actuator. It has a 'shoe box' plastic cover on it. Not sure if it the one that leaks oil into the electrical components or not. Will look into it before we head out for sure. I have not looked at the brake lines yet. Will try to find information on how to identify if they have been changed.
It came with a full set of GYMs and they are coming off. will order a fresh set of Michelin Defenders. Not ready to excuse Goodyear for the 'Explode-a-thon' mess. Will follow the Edurance threads for a while and see. I the mean time I love my Defenders.
So mush to do! But I love it!

Pete,
The "short" hoses had a sharp bend right where they go into the caliper, kinking and restricting. New hose ends in a steel line, longer and no kinking. Better routing.
if you're pulling wheels pull the pin and pads. Clean anchors and end of pad, caliper grease and install. Inspect dust boots for tears or damage.

Hi Gary,
My system (Kodiak brakes, Hydrastar actuator) has somewhere between 1/2 second and 1 second delay. It's hard to time it accurately. Is yours better? It is clearly hydraulic pump spool-up, as if I anticipate a stop and lightly press brake pedal there is no delay when I go for the real braking action. I have bled the brakes repeatedly and can't get the time down any lower.
What do you mean by "appreciable"? In both of my panic stops on the out west trip I first got the "Hensley Bump" from my ProPride as the TV brakes came on first and hard, but then the TT brakes came on and pulled the TT back into position. This tells me that the TT was actually helping stop the truck, if only slightly. No doubt in my mind they are about twice as effective as the original drums, but just wonder if there is something I am missing.

Al,
This can be a bit of opinion time but a few years back I did some serious brake work and wrote this http://http://www.airforums.com/foru...ime-96724.html as my .02$ about the topic.
You have Kodiak, that has a much easier bleeding setup compared to original 4 piston Dexters.
It's a bit of a story but one of my daily issues at work is helping guys get air bubbles out of clutch hydraulic release systems. I take these personal.
We'll have some time to discuss next month.
Gary

Tyrinius family,
Glad to sign you folks up, and I didn't even have to look at the roster for your number.
You get S/OS #089!
And a fine looking rig and setups. And if Alabama is home base NC ain't terrible far away see if you can get in and attend Alumaslider next month http://http://www.airforums.com/foru...-a-171620.html
Even the dry sites are nice, water is nearby.
Welcome to the Slide Out Society

Thanks Gary. I read your post months ago and had forgotten about it. Your pump sounds about like mine.

That’s where it gets tricky noise vs actual pressure being created.

Thank you for adding us! Thank you Al and Gary for the warm welcome and the kind words. We were fortunate to find this barn on an acre of land. It already had power, water and plenty of shelving so we installed 50 amp service, which makes getting ready for trips incredibly convenient. Our previous Airstream was a 2008 Safari that was kept in a parking lot at a nearby state park and baking in the sun all year is not a good thing...We will definitely check our schedules for the Alumaslider next month.

Give me a brake...
Het folks, my '08 34 slide, new to me, is supposed to have 3,500 lb axles under it. When I check the Dexter website they state that the 3,400# axles have a four bolt hub. My axles have 6 studs. What am I missing? They also say that the 3,500# is the only assembly that uses a single piston, floating caliper as opposed to a four piston fixed caliper. I haven't pulled a wheel off yet as that will happen next week when I get new rubber mounted. So I'm just curious what axle/ brake arrangement do I have? All help is greatly appreciated but I am sure that I will find out next week. I hope. Just having fun finding my way around this new rig. Better to do some learning in the driveway as opposed to the highway!
Thanks
Pete

Pete,
Might try sliding under the rig and on the front of an axle beam you hopefully will see the Dexter label. Take a pic of it and start your search with that info or post it in the running gear section and ask the membership. Dexter website has a lot of resources. Single piston, hummmmh. IIRC I looked at a 2008 34' last month, pretty sure they were the 4 piston calipers.

Thanks again Gary. Just a little confused with everything new. I set my controller down to 5.5 and the brakes were VERY solid so I'm thinking that they are the four piston design as well. No Hensley bump with this set up either. It was there with the 31 so that's a nice change!

When you see a Dexter four piston caliper, it will be real identifiable look at K71-647-00 for an example of the four piston.

I’d be surprised if a 34 had 3500# axles. My 30 had 4500# axles, at least until I replaced them with 5000# ones.

My 34 has three axles and is rated at 10,500 pounds, so 3,500 pounds per axle what I understand it to be. Your 30 has two 5,000 pound axles for a 10,000 pound rating. (I've been wrong many times, but don't tell Judy)
I appreciate the input
