I like it!

Note to the scheduler - please don't make the rally anywhere near International's date. We are signed up for International 2018 and don't want to miss either.

Note to Nigginsbro - Joe and Annette need a slider.

Where and when for slide-out get together?

I'm in!
Also has anyone tried or currently using slide-out stabilizers to support the slide when parked for a few days?

Slide stabilization is not recommended, it would mess up the gear adjustment.

Slider haven

We have left Escanaba and the International Rally and are now parked at the mother ship. I had a great time trying to count all the sliders. As I mentioned before, they were scattered out over probably 15 acres. But they are not hard to spot, they do stand out.

Hard part was the accounting part.....Riding my trusty bicycle Trigger, counting on my fingers, quickly ran out of fingers to ride the bike with. Several near crashes but for a good cause. All is well though.

Pretty sure there must have been at least 20 there out of approximately 650 rigs. Some probably already on the slide rule.

Not bad given their short production period and low numbers.

Enjoy the slide.

John....slip sliding away.......

John,

See if you can get some roadside sweet corn. Grown in the backyard and sold in the front yard. Eat it same day. Use clothes pins to pull beard and mustache out of the way.

You'll thank me later.

You gonna be there and goofing off today?

Stuck at work.

Having done an adjustment on my slideout, I think you could put some crank up stabilizers under the rails, but I have never felt the need to do that. Is yours moving around? I have never noticed slide movement when sitting or rising at the dinette. I presume you have the trailer leveled and stabilizers deployed.

Slide stabilizers

I have not had any movement that i have noticed but I have seen stabilizers on units ( not Airsteams ) but some where I read something that after your unit has been setting for the few days, that putting some, being careful not to push up on the rails was a good thing, but only after the unit has been setting for 2-3 days.
Just trying to get some feed back from other people.

From my inspection when adjusting it, the Airstream unit is beefy. A less beefy unit might well benefit from supplemental stabilization. The whole trailer will settle unless on a concrete pad. My only concern would be that you wouldn't want settling of the main trailer to put stress on the slideout rails.

Agreed, no stabilization is necessary nor is it recommended. Airstream built these slides well and there is no tipping or flexing or bouncing. The slide itself does not extend as far as many SOB's do thus reducing wear and tear. The only thing the dealership drilled into my head was to have the stabilizer jacks down when extending the slide. The jacks can come up once the slide is retracted. Failure to have the jack stands down can cause torquing of the frame and potential of getting the slide misaligned and jammed.

Several friends of mine who own fifth wheels reported that they were advised not to use slide-out stabilizers because should a tire or two on the side of the slide out fail, the stabilizers would continue to hold the slide out in place, thus causing to the slide out to move completely out of alignment and become unable to retract.

Yep you could be putting forces on these slides that they were not designed for. There is just no beneficial factor in putting any type of stabilizers under these slides other than to use the stabilizers that are built into the trailer itself. After almost 14 years my side operates like it was new and has never shown any issues. Just make sure you only operate the slide with the main trailer stabilizers down and your slide will give you years of perfect use. I spray silicone on the gaskets twice a year to keep them in good shape.

Slideout Maintenence

Hi, S/OS # 34 writing here,

I want to begin collecting parts and information on my upcoming Slideout project. This winter I'll be replacing the slide rollers and adjusting the height level of the slide so it doesn't drag on the carpet.

I have the larger size slide with a sofa. I'll be removing the two interior end cabinets and slide frame. On the exterior I'm not sure what I need to do. I did try to adjust the slide several years ago and recall that everything seems to work in reverse of what I expected.

Does anyone know if there's printed information somewhere that could walk me through the project? Also has anyone found the Slideout Rollers advertised online? What other parts might I need?

~A

~A, there are a couple of threads on adjustments. Al (and Missy) wrote a detailed one which might help [couldn't find it quickly] but here is one I found from Vinnie:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f252...tml#post651167

I have tweaked my slide a few times and their notes are spot on. However, I'm not sure why you believe you need to change the rollers. The slide is cantilevered using the rollers and proper adjustment will raise the leading edge and remove contact from the carpeting. Are they squealing or otherwise giving you a message about failure?

Dave,
I looked and can't find anything I posted on the slideout adjustment. I know we corresponded via PM and e-mail but so far I haven't found that either. I sent a bunch of documents to Gary, again via e-mail or PM, but here is what I have on the slideout.

Edit:
I did find my spreadsheet of the multiple trials to adjust my slide. It is attached as well.
