Started 15" Marathons got about 12K miles out of them.
Changed to 16" Sendel wheels with Michelin LTX (like the factory started shipping). Got 5 years and 48K out of those.
Just changed to 16" Agilis. 1300 miles so far.

I may have skewed your poll. I didn't read the description properly. My Classic is an older model with the 8300 GVWR. Fully loaded the trailer axles are 7400 lbs. I have the GYE 15" at 60 psi cold - been very happy since 2017. Will replace with the same before the start of next camping season.
What is the weight on the trailer axles fully loaded?
If I were in your shoes I would go with a name brand HT type tire - LT225/75/16 "E" 121 rated, since you have the heavy slide out model. Don't over think this - go with a tire that can be easily acquired while on the road.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the tip. I wasn't aware that there were any LT225/75-16s with the 121T rating until you suggested them. Most LT225/75-16R tires have a load index of 115. A few have 121, but the Michelin Agilis LT is not one of them. The Agilis C-metric is rated 121, or equivalent. In the LT version, I see Continental vancofourseason, General Grabber, and some others I'm not familiar with - Nokian, for one. I have run a lot of Michelins and Continentals on cars but not trucks or trailers. An SUV we had had Generals and they lasted a long time. Based on this and another poster who switched to Generals I will look into them and the Continentals.

Edit: on close inspection, the General and Continental are both C-metric, not LT-metric tires. They and the Agilis C-metric are all 121 rated "light truck" tires but do not carry the LT designation. Are you aware of any name brand LT-metric tires rated 121?

Although my trailer is a heavy slide model, the GW is 11,500# and with a tongue weight of 1,400#. I have three axles loaded about as heavy as your 2 axle trailer. I run Michelin LTXs and I'm on the second set. No problems. Remember, the truck tires have a deeper tread depth by quite a bit, hence more wear and durability. (It takes longer nails to puncture the tread too.)

AL,
I must apologize for typing before fully researching my earlier thread reply. It has been awhile since I have looked into swapping out for 16 inch tires and the proper service description. I searched for an hour or so and apparently a lt225/75r16 121 is not valid so please disregard. I researched this out in 2016 before the GYE came to market as I didn't want to put China-pop tires on my trailer. I was very close to doing the swap.

So with that stated I would still want to know the axle weight loaded for camping - worst case scenario. Also I would compare this to the actual axle rating listed on the trailer tag. I assume your trailer has at least 5000 GAWR axles. The tires need to support at least this amount of weight - the more the better.
If you still have the 15" rims I would probably opt for the GYE as the load rating is 2830 lbs and service description 117 at max sidewall pressure. (FYI my trailer only has 7400 lbs on the axles and run the tires at 60 psi cold - you have a much different situation).
Others have stated that they are getting reliable service with Michelin tires with the 115 service description. They must not be overloading the tires or would they be having problems. Real world testing/use cannot be ignored in my book.
If I were to pick a LT225/75r16 115 I would choose the Michelin XPS RIB or Bridgestone Duravis R238 as these seem to be true commercial tires with a closed shoulder, straight tread which would be beneficial for the trailer tracking straight down the highway.
That's all I got.

2015 25 FB - do the 245 tires actually fit into the wheel well or did you have to trim the metal back for these to fit? The 245 has a much better weight rating in comparison.

I just replaced my OEM LT225/75R16 Michelin with Cooper Discoverer HT3 of the same size. They are also an LT tire, spec about the same as the OEM Michelin and are made in USA. I haven't run them yet, so I can't comment further.

@crispyboy. Yes the tires fit with no trimming on the 30. The trailer IS lifted. I had the same setup on the 25 and that did require some trimming ( 90 seconds with a whiz wheel)

Been on pretty rough roads with both setups (cross bronx and BQE- plus Chicago / Eastern Michigan roads) with no problems. Off-road They provide a better footprint when aired down

Look cooler too

I did find a tire with the heavier 121 specs @ 3197lbs. I am not familiar with the Hercules brand. A friend told me about them as he just put some on his SOB trailer. Most likely Asian made.

Hi

There are indeed some good asian made tires. There are also some that are absolute junk. Sorting that out as companies get bought and sold can be more than a bit difficult.....

Full disclosure: When I started the poll I was running Michelin LT225/75-16 115 (2680#) tires. For various reasons as posted, I lost two of them to tread separation within 30 miles of home after checking pressure prior to leaving. They were probably aged out. One showed signs of a pothole or curb strike, the other not.

I have replaced them with Michelin Agilis Cross Climate 22575-16C (121T) for the higher load rating. I can run them at 70 psi and have more load capacity than the LT version at 80 psi.

While I was in there I replaced disc brake pads and lubed wheel bearings.
