Dometic Penguine Air/Heat pump- 2006 Classic

My airconditioner makes noise that can only be heard outside. My dealer says it is normal. If you have a newer 30' SO Classic I would appreciate if you would let me know if your rooftop unit also makes noise. Thank you. Richard

Let us know what you mean by noise. It does sound different on the outside vs. what you hear inside.

mr. kleimanr,

If you could be a little more descriptive, I/we could possibly help you out.

*Does this noise happen when set to the air conditioner function or also on heat pump?

*Does it happen with just the fan running and the compressor off (fan only setting)

*Can you try to put the noise into words....whirring, clanking, rubbing, etc.

I've installed a few new Penguins and the squirrel cage fans were rubbing on their shrouds creating a noise that was audible only from the outside. On a new trailer, that should be a warranty fix! Penguins carry a 2 year labor and 3 year parts warranty.

Let us know what you find...........

I have a similar problem. But my noise sounds like a rattle and only occurs when the air conditioner is running. It doesn't effect the running of the unit either and occasionally it will stop. Any ideas?

It is common for parts to be out of place enough to contact something they shouldn't, and with the compressor vibration they will then rattle. Often it's the copper tubing being bent a little bit wrong that's at fault, but not always. The only way to find it is to climb up there and remove the shroud and look around.
