For the past few years I've been less than happy with the underbelly utility compartment hook up for the city water connection on my Classic.
The way I like to do it is to leave a piece of hose always hooked up and just feed it thru the access hatch on the bottom of the compartment and then attach my main city water hose to it so I don't have to stay in a stooped position too long trying to attach a hose to the connection in the trailer.
I just feed the hose thru the hatch and close the door and it's a lot easier to attach the main hose to it as I can pull the piece far enough out to make it quick and easy to screw them together. Only problem is that with a regular non-kink type white hose is that it would kink every time when the door was closed. I tried different types of connectors, i.e., a solid 45 degree fitting, a 90 degree solid fitting but that posed problems with the door closing.
Now after all this time here is my solution:
I bought a 10' Camco #22823 blue drinking water hose for $13.33 and a Gilmore female coupling #01FZ.
I cut the hose aprox. 41 inches from the male end to use as the hose that will stay hooked up in the compartment all the time, (cut length to suit your situation) and on the other end use the new female coupling. Since the blue hose has a spring on the outside of the hose near it's male end it won't allow the hose to kink when the hatch is closed. This size hose rolls up nicely inside the compartment and is ready for use.
To me it's much easier to hook the hoses together on the outside of the compartment. Hope this help someone who feels the same pain as me when hooking up.
By the way, if you buy a male coupling too you can put it on the left over piece of hose and use it when you just need a short hose for those sites where you only need a few more feet of hose to make the connection to the sites city water hook up. The blue hose is also more stiff than any white hose I've used. I now use all blue hoses for fresh water and they seem to be more kink resistant throughout the whole hose.
Another benefit of the blue hose is that it's helps you maintain upperbody strength when trying to roll it up during cold weather.
Note: The all metal couplers I used on the hose do contain some lead in the metal, so you may want to use plastic if that is a concern to you.
