Where is my VIN?
I recently purchased an 1967 Overlander in California with no previous title or paperwork on record. When I arrived to the DMV, an employee reviewed my bill of sale and inspected the trailer. They were unable to find a VIN, and frankly, I had no idea where to tell them to look for it! Alas, I was not able to register my trailer, so currently it is sitting with no insurance, title, or registration.
Recently, while I was cleaning out the trailer, I found an old license plate from North Carolina and got really excited, because this means I am a step closer to registering my new trailer. However, I'm still unsure of the VIN so North Carolina's DMV was unable to help me. On the plates, it looks like the last time the plate was registered was 2000; NC's DMV database doesn't keep records from that far back.
So, my question is. Can someone help me locate the VIN on my Overlander? Where are the VINs usually located on Overlanders?
Thank you for your help!

There should be a plate next to the door with the VIN. The format should be one of these depending on which plant the trailer was built at:
Ohio | O 26 7 J NNN
California | O 26 7 S NNN

Take a look at this pic and you will see by the door just below the window is the "Model and Serial number plate". Click on the pic to make it larger.

Thank you for your help! I will be visiting my Airstream tomorrow or Friday (she's in storage because I don't have a driveway or yard) and will check the places you mention. Thanks also for the useful diagram!

Hi all,
Thank you again for help in locating the VIN of my trailer. Does this look like typical 67 Overlander VIN? The numbers were VERY faded, so I wanted to double-check:

Vin #
I see you are in Calif., if you take the trailer to the CHP office they will have a officer that has knowledge of where the numbers are located. If he can not find the numbers he will stamp a new one on the tongue and give you paperwork for the DMV and insurance. This was done on a out of state boat trailer and should work on the TT.
Good luck!

That looks like a valid number for an Ohio built 67 Overlander with the International option.

Do you have any contact with the previous owners family? If you can speak with them they may be able to tell you where the trailer originally was licensed. Also they may have come across the title after the PO passed. You may have to search other states DMV records by your model and serial number. Good Luck, Ed

I also have a question concerning the VIN # on the plate beside the door is just 6929. My mother in law got this from her father after his passing, along the way she lost the title so she got a duplicate title and on the duplicate it states 1957 airstream VIN 6929. I am cleaning it up to sale it for the family, can anyone help me with this ? I am not sure what model it is, according to a book I found in the camper- book is from 1964- it is a 24' tradewind twin but not sure since the title states it's a 1957 ???? any help with this is appreciated. Thank You.

Mabdala,
Sounds as if you already got it figured out. One discovery I made when removing paint from the front forks (in preps for repainting) was that the vin was stamped onto the right front fork. Made me pretty happy to see that it matched the little aluminum plate.
