Sconce bulb replacement

OK, it's just me again. Now I have a question about replacing a bulb in one of my wall sconces. I just know that it should be a no brainer but for some reason I just can't get the old bulb out. Try as I may, I can't seem to get that stinker out. I assume that it's a typical bayonet mount 12V bulb but I guess that my fat fingers just aren't getting a grip on it. I can push it in a little but no twist to be had. I've tried to remove the bulb from other working sconces but no luck there either. Is there a trick? Or do I just need to find a child with small hands and the grip of a gorilla?

try some PB Blaster or similar lube, and a cloth to hold onto the bulb. Its probably corroded in there

Yes. DO NOT hold the bare bulb. It will shatter in your fingers, with painful results. The Voice of Experience here...

Thanks for the tips. I'll try the Blaster and cloth.

Bulb removal

The problem is most likely that the bulbs are corroded in the sockets. The easiest way to remove them is to break the glass and use Break Free or P B Blaster on the sockets. Then use a pair of needle nosed pliers in the center of the bulb to push down and twist the bulb base to release it from the socket. A larger bulb and you would be able to use a potato o accomplish the same thing. Ed

P.S. You will need to clean the socket up to allow proper contact for the new bulb base so the light bulb will work right.

I would also suggest you squirt a bit of the Blaster or electronic contact cleaner/lube, into each bulb socket your trailer has so this job will be easier in the future.
