'68 screens & parts...

Kevin, You may be able to find some from another Forums member in Yakima, Washington. I was able to get parts from him a while back from a wrecked '68 that he was parting out. He had lots of items stored & available. Call me @ 309-558-8177 (Illinois) and I will share his contact info and phone number with you.

Big Ed, do you know if he had more than one set of window screens? I am also in need of screens for a 1968 Tradewind. I am not sure if the Overlander has the same windows as the Tradewind or not but I would like to check with him and see. Many Thanks!

screens

Eric, I have two contacts for parts that may have screens left. I will check with them today and post a response here. I am sure some windows/screens on Tradewinds are also found on your trailer. One source has both a '67 & a '68 A/S trailers (Overlander & Ambassador) that are being parted out so they may still have some screens too. Ed

Hi,

I'm in Richmond, and I can tell you that Pleasant's Hardware in downtown Richmond can custom build you screens if you need them. I have a 64 and they had the right profile. I'm getting them to actually make me 2 aluminum glass framed windows to replace the screens for my jalousy window. I did it mainly so I could match the rest of the windows I have where I'm putting in limo black window tinting. I rebuilt the jalousy with new seals, but even then they are a little drafty if the wind is blowing hard. This effectively creates a storm window for me.

They were charging me $45 each, but not sure what the price would be for screens. They also sell the screen, spline and aluminum channel if you wanted to try to do it yourself.

Thanks robwok, that will be my other option if I am unable to find the screens. My Tradewind has all original windows in great shape, but no screens. Thanks for the info.

I still can't get over my luck. We bought our Airstream on a whim, paid a low price, and it has everything. It was like it was used a few times, then parked in a warehouse. I am replacing things that can't be seen (plumbing, electrical) but everything else is just about perfect. I have every single screen including the vent screens in perfect order.

robwok,

We feel very fortunate as well, our coach had been really well maintained. The only things that are missing are the window screens,Awning and the Roof vent crank handles. When we return from vacation, I am going to order the crank handles from Vintage Trailer supply. All the best!

This is great news! Thanks guys! I will look into that! Rowbok, any chance I could pay you to make tracings on brown paper of your screens? This would eliminate a ton of guessing!
This forum is awesome!

Just realized you have a 64 and your screens will be different from mine.
Can you send me pics of the profile that they used?
It will be a start!
Thanks, Kevin

Kevin: Here's a pic of one of my screens. This is standard screen profile, and has probably been used consecutively for the last 50 years and probably is still used. You may be able to get it from home depot or lowes. I used a slightly different profile to create my interior storm windows. It's even possible to get the dimensions and order them online if you're doing a lot of them. All of my screens go into a channel, then are held in by a little spring tensioned clip. The 2 for my jalousy are gravity held by lifting up into a track, then back down. I'm a bit concerned the new profile with glass won't be a great fit, but I'll just have to work with it.

I'm probably only a hour from you and I'll be working on my AS tomorrow (putting in a new AC). If you want to swing by and look at how mine is put together, feel free to send me a private message and I can give you contact info.

I may have to get in touch when I am in your area just to meet and chat. Take care and I will post am update once I receive my screens.

If you look in the A-S Forums Classifieds, check out the ad by BEX. He has numerous NOS windows and screens for sale for a lot of models/years. Seem to be reasonable prices. Has lots of other hard to find NOS parts as well.

Steve at Vintage Trailer supply has the screen frame for 68's. He actually used measurements from the screens on my 68 when he was sourcing the extrusions.

Hope this helps.

Screen Frame w/ 5/16" Lip, 3/8" x 94" x .020, Mill

Anyone have an online source for this aluminum screen frame? I've struck out locally.
