I am new here and ready to be initiated. I bought a
1967 26' Overlander this spring. For 2 months I laid on a snuggly down comforter atop my midship gaucho, vaporizer in hand, and dreamed about how it would become the ultimate time machine and adventure craft for me and my partner.
I have been reading the forums, scouring the Internet for imagery and inspiration, researching floors and cabinets, considering multi head showers and double ended bath bowls. All this as I sank deep into the nostalgia of my childhood inside my new magic time machine. I wanted to preserve the time she was born but i knew I had to let go of the
1967 American cherry patina and the smell of my granny's old dresser ...so too have the Tartus and Dalek been upgraded.
I want her to be solid from the bottom up and I want her to be able to go where no man went before should I chose and I want her to make a killer cappuccino so I've decided to raise the shell and rebuild her from the ground up.
So two weeks ago, I began.
Everything is out and I am ready to replace the floor with marine ply. I have removed the lower interior shell to expose the c track. And now I am building the gantries to lift the shell.
Know there will be many questions to come, but now I have one question. I'm concerned about the foundation layers (deck, shell, c track and banana skin) collapsing together when i start removing rivets and then lining it all back up when re-riveting her with the new deck in place.
My understanding is that the shell and bananna skin share the same rivets with the c track which bolts to the deck.
