My 1968 Overlander is an "International" What makes this different form other packages available during this time?

The International was an upgrade from the base model. Here is a link to the specifics for your trailer along with the prices: http://service.airstream.com/files/l...58252aedd9.pdf

Hmmm, the information I have says the International badge was not available until 1969. But I could be wrong. I believe starting in 69 generally the smaller trailers were Land Yachts and the larger Internationals. The exception was the Overlander which in 69 was available as a "Deluxe Land Yacht" and an "International Land Yacht". Generally Internationals had more bells and whistles. I welcome correction.

The International Package was introduced during the 1950s as an upgrade over the standard Land Yacht trim level. It appears from information on the Airstream corporate site that the International package was first offered in 1958. The contents of the package changed somewhat from year to year and there could be slight differences in content based on model of coach to which it was applied. In 1980, International became a separate model rather than a package that could be added as an option to nearly any Airstream in the fleet.

I still have never seen or heard of a 70s Tradewind (or other smaller trailers) that is other than a Land yacht or a 70s Sovereign (or other larger trailers*) that is other than an International. Has anyone? Could it be that until 69 International and Land Yacht were trim packages, but 69 to 1980 (when the International model came out) smaller models were only produced as Land Yachts and longer models only as Internationals?

*other than 1979 Overlander

Here is what I was able to find out through a cursory check on RJ Dials Archives:

1978 Tradewind International (Notice multi-color badge along belt-line)

1978 Caravanner International

1977 Tradewind International

1977 Caravanner International

1977 Overlander International

1976 Caravanner International

1976 Overlander International

1975 Overlander International

1974 Safari International

1974 Overlander International

1973 Safari International

1973 Tradewind International

1973 Overlander International

1972 Overlander International

1970 Caravanner International

1970 Overlander International

1971 Overlander International

I suspect that part of the reason that there are fewer smaller coaches with the International package may have something to do with the target audience for the smaller coaches where cost consciousness may have played a role. I also seem to remember reading some document at some point that indicated after 1965 the International package was only offered on tandem axle trailers.

Thanks for posting the pictures I enjoyed them even if you broke my bubble. But I think I finally have the Airstream system figured out now. The answer seems to be there is no system and Airstream is a tricky rabbit.

You are so correct . . . it is VERY dangerous to use the words never or always in regard to Airstream or Argosy products particularly those that are more than 20 years old.
