Actually, if the "original" tiles in a Pre-1964 (vintage) Bambi are 9"x9" - they are
not Marmoleum. They are VAT -
Vinyl
Asbestos
Tile.
Marmoleum is
generally a sheet product, although currently, they do make some 'click tiles' in 12"x12" & 12" x 24" tiles. VAT/VCT manufacturers changed from 9" x 9" VAT to 12" x 12" VCT when they were required to remove the asbestos as an ingredient - the 12" x 12" size originally was intended to indicate it was asbestos-free. Marmoleum is a 100% natural "green" linoleum product generally made from linseed oil, pine rosin, wood pulp flour, cork dust, calcium carbonate, and natural pigments & has a jute backing - not vinyl. It goes way back before modern vinyls & plastics were invented.
We've installed
Forbo Marmoleum in both of our Airstream restorations (1964 GlobeTrotter &
1956 Safari) and absolutely love it!
