Your little silver Twinkie is a bit more durable than that! The only concern I have is all the salt in the air during our infrequent hurricanes! Oh well until the sun shines again or the ark is Completed I will just continue to mark the leaks! During one of the breaks in the rain I tried to cut the grass and finished the front yard but blew the transaxle on my 16 year old craftman so now another project!

I hate to date myself, but does any one remember the *keep on truckin!* sticker of yesteryear?
I feel just like those guys on the sticker every time I walk thru my trailer. High stepping up and over each crossmember.
No need for Pilates this summer!

Heres an electrical question.
What is the black flat romex type wire that comes out of the wall just above the fuse box in the bathroom streetside
closet.
It was taped off on the end and taped to the vent pipe in the closet.
It goes from there up into the end cap.
Is it for AC?

First the new axle on it is 8'8" but that is with out the ac add another 14 to 16inches with the ac sorry it took so long I got real busy and measured then forgot to respond.

Used for some dc and for part of the ac I found romex and the black where the ac was supposed to be!

Today we will remove the 2 side compartment doors and reseal, then buck them back in.
Those 2 doors leak like a sieve!
If that goes along smoothly then we can start prepping the frame for the POR 15.
No rain in sight for at least 3 days so I hope to get many things scratched off the extremely long list.

Has not rained here in va. But the caravel is in nc so nothing accomplished there but I have had a great time with the family! Your doing great keep it going!

Today we got 1 (streetside) compartment door drilled out, resealed and the old black tape stuff removed and cleaned, then sealed with butyl tape and bucked back in.
The other door (curbside) is drilled out, removed and cleaned up. We will buck it back in tomorrow.
To reattach the battery vent tube holder I used butyl tape and 2 closed end pop rivets with aluminum an aluminum washer on the back of each one.
It was a great day!

The blue stuff is hillbilly skirting.
Really its plastic sheeting that some of our aluminum at work is delivered in.
It makes a great wind break inside the trailer so the shielding gas for welding does not blow away.
And its free!

The step area on my 65 was completely rusted out. I had to chop the whole area off fabricate new metal and re weld. If you want to beef up the frame you may want to "box" it in with a piece of metal that closes the open part of the frame and makes it more of a tube. Check out my thread. Also are you putting aluminum strip over steel to beef that step area up? If so I would consider using steel over steel and aluminum over aluminum. dissimilar metals don't really like each other that much. Good luck on your project. Oh and if you are going for axles talk to Colin H hes a great guy.

Okay to beef it up but if you use anything other than aluminum over the step (like steel) rust. Proof the heck out of it! I made the aluminum piece over the step void longer so that it covered the channel with the step guide and that will keep the floor dryer! Have a lot to do but getting a second person has proven difficult unless they want me to do something for them but no reach around! It will get done first transaxle on the mower then back to work on the caravel! Great work by the way!

My plan is to use stainless under the floor in the step opening and make it bigger than what had been there to keep the water away from the floor. then use stainless for the threshold cover on both sides of the step.
I cut out the whole piece of steel that was directly under the door. Its the piece that bridges the outriggers. It was rotted beyond repair. It will be better than new.
I really do love this project.

The piece under the door is being replaced with 11 gauge steel. Hope to have that fix welded in tomorrow after work. Its tacked in now.
I also added an angle piece in the back of the trailer in the bath area that runs front to back in the center. It seemed like a large span with no support.
My tanks will be above the floor.
Custom tanks to fit in my 3 inching frame are too expensive for me.

The time has come to POR-15 the frame. This has so far proven to be the most physically demanding of all the steps involved in sub floor replacement.
Lots of bending over with the angle grinder in tow.
The best thing I've found so far to remove the loose rust and paint is the 4.5 " angle grinder outfitted with a cup wheel with the braided steel bristles.
Ok break is over. Back at it.
