The 2 latch assemblies are the same.
I put the old one back in and the latch handle snapped down flat. There was no front to back or side to side slop but there was some up & down slop.
I put the new assembly back in & zero slop when the ball is locked in. But the rod still sticks up like in the picture.
I'm stumped.
Since the original parts still work and appear to be in good condition what are you not going to use them? Sometimes replacement parts don't work properly. There does appear to be minor differences between them that could present issues.
I wire brushed my originals and reused them rather than replacing them. Last thing I want is for my hitch to have issues when traveling or trying to travel.
Since we agree these parts may not be safe I suggest you contact Vintage Trailer, notify them and ask for a refund at the least. It is good to have replacement parts but only if they work properly
I talked to vintage trailer awhile ago. They no longer carry the part. Marvel quit making it.
The part was purchased & installed a few years ago. Never got to try it til this summer.
Since it opened and closed the way it should when installed, i never dreamed it wouldn't fit the ball properly.
We are repairing a section of subfloor rot in the front of our '74 Sovereign. We spoke with a custom RV guy who recommended Durock between the subfloor and flooring, to keep the subfloor dry. Has anyone used this? I have heard of it for houses but I'd worry about weight (around 2lb. per sq ft).
Never heard of it. 2# a square foot is alot of unnecessary weight.
I used 5/8 ACX plywood then coated it with penetrating epoxy. Especially the edges.
I took a scrap of it and tossed it outside under the eve of my barn. No rot or damage 5 years later.

Got to be some misinformation here. The Durock 3x5 is about 1/2” thick cement board. You can’t put that between the subfloor and flooring. The RV guy may have meant Durock shower membrane. That’s waterproof and is .012” thick. Don’t know. Good luck
Also consider that anything waterproof also traps water where you may not want it to sit and soak.
