The ONLY floor rot I have found. Anyone have a quick fix idea?

Dude -

Hate to burst your bubble here, but you can rest assured you WILL find more bad plywood hidden behind the pipe and shell...particularly where the plywood goes into (or under) the 'C' channel....

By thankfull that it IS plywood and not OSB or some other type of "manufactured" board - most of the floor would be mush by now if it were not plywood.

Since it IS relatively close to the shell, it should be repairable with a minimum of disassembly.

Pull the interior panels in the area of the damage, and strip back the belly pan in the same area...you should be able to cut out the bad spot and tie in a good splice from the underside.

I also agree that you need to really check the seal along the bumper edge. Someone else here said the bumper is just a water magnet. My bumper leak turned out to be quite significant and required days of labor to fix. I assume you've seen the several posts here about bumper leaks and the problems they can cause. They go back for years.

The advice Dennis gave you is much the same as a friend gave me this afternoon while we we examining the 71 Overland that I acquired,but have not started to work on.

Yes, The bathroom was removed to replace the copper w/ pex and rework the bathroom. HATE that I found it..Its haunting me.. I knew in my heart Id need to address the problem...I just wanted on wih the fun stuff and quit woking on the not so fun stuff. Its getting old FAST with the not so fun stuff... Are you going to replace your floor. Is it alot of rot ?

Along the very rear edge of the trunk you should have a panel riveted in place - about 4 feet long and 5 inches or so tall. You may want to drill the rivets out of that and pull it - should be 5 or 6 holding it. Inside (pull the insulation that will likely be damp) you will be able to see the C channel and under that a steel channel it bolts thru. That steel channel is welded to the top of the frame. Your going to need to see the condition of that channel to decide how big this job is actually going to be.

You can also open the bumper lid and feel up under the edge - you should feel the U shape and get a rough idea of how badly it's rusted. Not sure on a 70 - does the bumper tray open on the bottom for the hose/electrical to exit? That's another way to get an eye on it laying on your back. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you girl...

The Texas Cavarly arrived...LisaP and her wonderful husband Gary came over to look at the floor. The floor rot had been weighing heavly on my mind. I just didnt want to Bandaid the problem. I knew the problem would be NO MORE the moment asked for a saw. He worked so quickly and got the problem to a managable project for me.

LisaP and Gary...THANKS SO MUCH FOR SPENDING YOUR SUNDAY ON MY PROBLEM...Yall have me up and running again..I can now see the light.
