No definite plans on the interior other than I want a very high quality original atomic feel that's low maintenance and if at all possible child resistant. I enjoy looking at the design on Hofarc but this trailer will be a real travel trailer not a pool house so marine grade stuff yes driftwood no.
I do have a crazy master plan that allows for twins to convert to a semi walk around queen but I'll probably make a mock up first; that's the key focus of the master bedroom :-)
I have all the original parts and cabinets but will most likely ditch the super cool Princess stove for one that won't kill us all, ditto the 2 Glen-Air furnaces and the refrigerator will be a Danfoss compressor based unit with the Marvel door grafted on.
The flooring will almost certainly be 1/2" thick cork, the paint Zolatone and the cabinets will all have large radius corners but I'll reserve my under lit aquamarine Corian countertop plan for later....
I very much struggle with the original or resto dilemma but ultimately I believe there is always room for improvement so as cool as an original trailer seems to me I'd inevitably change stuff.
I've tried explaining my warped logic to my wife that a new one would be at least another $140k and not as cool, so in the grand scheme of things material costs are negligible. (disclaimer, negligible is mounting up fast but I'm the only one keeping track, still the Fedex guy is always driving a new truck).

Nature wins...
I was a little optimistic thinking I'd have all the exterior work done ready for spray insulation before it got cold.
This week after work I cut the wheel well cut outs (Ohio style) and trimmed them which went well, and uses a lot of w's....
This weekend I've stripped down the door and re-skinned the main part. It was originally a 4 piece skin but for a couple of reasons I've morphed them into one piece. It feels like a big step getting a door seal on and the gorgeous door lock back in place. I still need to rework the door with a door, add it's drip cap, fab the eyebrow and add the body mounted dead bolt but at least it looks way better and it barely snowed at all today.
I might get some more exterior pieces completed enough that I can insulate with Roxul but we'll see. If not it'll be another winter mulling over whether to go with 16" mags or steelies with mini moons.

Working on the short list of things before I can insulate. This afternoon built and installed frames for the Airstream plaques.

Yup, that's the 4 years supervisors chair. I'm happier with her decorating the interior than the exterior skin.

I just got thru looking at your thread and some amazing work. Was wondering what type metal did you make your wheel wells out of and did you have to form them or bend and cut as needed to shape, they look more durable than the plastic ones used on the early 70's.

The wheel wells are one thing I contracted out, mainly because of the Pittsburgh seam. I had them use the same material as original in the 60's, galvanized steel, but upped the gauge to, IIRC, about double the thickness. They used a brake to form a near curve so I'd say aside from the seam its pretty simple stuff but I'm OK with the cost as they are very well made and should survive a long time.

I'm working through the list of exterior work required before insulation can go in. This evening I installed the door eyebrow I'd made last week. Not too tricky but I did want larger flanges and I put a compound curve in the main section too.
I used the same old T3 2024 .032" rather than "O" non tempered.
Next up is the VTS custom deadbolt in the wall.

Installed the deadbolt today, all went well and it operates perfectly. I did cut about 3/8" off the stainless extension so I could bolt the mechanism to the nearby bow first and yet not foul the door.
Next up I'd like to attach the VTS door and screen door holdback clip but I'm puzzled. If I attach it to the trailer skin it would work but it'd be hard to operate and there's nothing behind the skin so I'd be tempted to add a back up stiffener. It seems like adding a stand off like the 3 1/2" version from VTS would help but it would look awkward.
I can relocate the whole enchilada down or up to an existing stiffener but then it's less parallel between the door and skin.
I'm not sure all that makes sense but there's very few pics that I can find on the forum that help.

Door Holdback Clips
I replaced mine with the ones from VTS. They are in the original positions. Fortunately, the old ones were still on the trailer, but all rusted up and froze. I didn't reinforce the back side, but there is a rib that runs inbetween them. I also have the hinge, door frame, and body seam close by to add some reinforcement.

Almost no physical progress this week, I did cut the tabs on the tail of the frame to accept my Ohio style bumper that I managed to find through a forum member earlier this year, it's going to look great when it's welded and LineX'd.
Better still I've finally figured out how to cut the cost of my restoration in half! Yup, no more shipping, brokerage, GST and PST for this project.
We're moving to Athens, GA. I'm ridiculously excited, but being able to work on project Airstream all year round is going to speed up the project immensely.
I'll probably start an Athens thread for tips on routes and where to store ideas but as of now I've ordered some 16" mags and tires plus a bunch of "get her legal to travel" parts ready for an inaugural trip. 3,500 Km in mid January, on an untested chassis, atypical suspension set up, new rubber, in minus a bazillion degrees winter conditions. It's going to fine.

Athens, Georgia?? Really? We're up there all the time.....one of our daughters lives there with her family. There's some great local beer in that area. The first one's on me. I've admired your work from afar for a long time. Be a genuine pleasure to meet you guys and buy a couple rounds.
You're going to be in for a real culture/climate shock moving down here to the land of humidity from the frozen north. Athens is a great place. UGA is there with all the normal Giant University lifestyles. Oh yeah, ya gotta get used to American football, southern style. The only place on earth more rabid about football than Georgia is Texas, but that's a whole 'nuther story.

Best plan on shade. "Summer" (use of AC) starts in March and runs till Thanksgiving.
For working outdoors, July 4th to Labor Day is out. Unless you have an enclosed building for a shop.
That said, glad you're looking forward to it. Camping season down south is October -- April.
Unlike Texas, Georgia has close destinations in summer far better than the 1000-miles we have to travel to escape the heat.
So, 50A service and wiring for two Mach 8 Colemans now on your list. And three Maxxfans. And a floor-standing dehumidifier (year-round).

I am new to the Airstream world having just bought a 30 ft to renovate. Heated Shop
I spent the bulk of this week in a friends neighbours shop enjoying the luxury of heated floors and space :-)
I did a little Captain Trolleys sealing, a bit of installing the new wheels, a temporary bumper instal and a lot of wiring. With a little luck tomorrow will see a trailer with both lights and functioning brakes roll out across the snow.
I've been reading the Tekonsha manual regarding setting up the brake controller and I think finding dry pavement might be a hurdle given that it took 4 wheel drive to get to the shop, but still......
Next up is trying out my new Sherline tongue scale, then a trip to the scale followed by the loading and securing of every Airstream part I own into the bare shell. Unfortunately getting a house ready to list is going to bite into this coming week but I'm focusing on year round Airstream time next year :-)
