I have ordered other Formica products through HD and the prices and delivery times were good.

Here are a couple of photos of it on my kitchen and bathroom counter tops. It is really cool stuff and the charcoal color was perfect for what I wanted.

Malcolm, your kitchen and bathroom look great. We are also going with the charcoal in the kitchen and the bathroom. Yes it is true, the only boomerang that you can buy is the charcoal, the other have been discontinued about 2 months ago.

I think the stock will still be there a little while. Suggestion, go to the place Home Depot buys it.

I guess it is a good thing that I picked the charcoal - just in case I end up wanting some more of it for something.

I called a large local cabinet supplier today and found another sheet of Formica coral boomerang for the future. Some business are already asking $450 a sheet.....

For our wood finish we decided to go with antique black. The first coat is a pecan minwax polyshades, combines stain and polyurethane. Steel wool using liberon oil free steel wool, then another coat of the pecan, then steel wool again. Next we will use rust-oleum flat black paint, allowing this layer to dry completely. Using a fine sandpaper and sand the wood surface in random areas, will consider how cabinetry would age normally, the areas where years of hands opened the cabinet doors would show wear. Apply several coats of polyurethane to the protect the surface, done.

Love the updates!
As "on top of it" as you are, you probably have considered this, but I'll throw it out here anyway.
If you are using water based Poly, don't use steel wool. Any particles left behind will rust. It's hard to clean them all off.

I have seen that driftwood pine in several offices. It's a very nice looking floor.

Finally found some time to read through this thread. Wow! I learned a lot! Thanks for documenting the process and taking good shots of the work. Helps so much.
I have a question relating to post #481 about your roof vent. I have the shaft part but am missing the top vent piece. Where did you track yours down?

Toastie... curious what thickness and what material you used for the dinette... 1/2"? Where'd you end up finding the edging? Outwater?

Looks fantastic!

Thanks Marc, the thickness is 3/4" finished plywood, the edging was bought off ebay. The company that makes the edging is MD Building

Worked on cutting foam today. We bought from http://www.foamforyou.com/ . We went with 82" x 76" x 5" and made our own cuts. We went with there premium HD foam http://www.foamforyou.com/Foam_Specs.htm#Open . Very happy with the selection.
