Roll Vinyl vs. Vinyl Tile in Bathroom?

Last night I finally got around to tearing out the carpet put down in the bathroom by the PO. The floor is in good condition. Am weighing the pro's and con's of roll vinyl vs. vinyl tile as a replacement. What have others done? We have bamboo laminate throughout the rest of the AS but don't want to carry it back into the bath. Any thoughts...pictures? Thanks!

Bob

I have had problems with self stick tile either loosening or migrating as temperatures change. Belief I would try sheet vinyl next time

We took up the carpet in ours and decided to go with VCT tile (vinyl composite tile) and we love it. It is more difficult to put down than the pull and stick stuff and you will need a heat gun to make your cuts and you will have to wax the floor from time to time but it lasts better than almost anything else out there.

I got lucky

I found some rubber backed industrial grade carpet tiles ( two ) , that fit
perfectly into my bathroom. I can hose them down and sun dry them.
I use a towel as a bathmat. Works for me.
More importantly. I was advised by my Airstream Guru to paint the
plywood subfloor in the bathroom with some deck paint. I may caulk around the
edges to prevent moisture from getting underneath stuff

I agree with Rick. If I had the chance to do it again, I would choose sheet vinyl. No seams. I too have some problems with my 6"x36" planks either shrinking or lengthening depending on the temperatures inside the Airstream.

I used Marmoleum by Forbo. It is a true linoleum, not vinyl. Authentic vintage look. Available as sheet or tile. It needs to be glued down with a product specific adhesive. It's a bit hard to find. Sorry no pics, but there are other threads.

By the way I have some extra adhesive if anyone can use it.

Roll Vinyl vs. Vinyl Tile in Bathroom?

Greetings Bob!

Fowler RV Interiors installed new industrial grade Congoleum sheet vinyl in my Airstream in 2003. I am totally satisfied with the results. The Congoleum is easy to maintain and has a heavy duty wear layer that has not required any kind of waxing to this point.

My Minuet has floating laminate flooring also installed by Fowler RV Interiors in 2005. I have also been very well pleased with this flooring, but would still have gone with sheet vinyl tile if it weren't for the Minuet's aluminum composite floors. While I haven't had any particular problems with the laminate flooring, I am just more comfortable with the long-term durability of the Congoleum.

Good luck with your investigation!

Kevin
