Replacing carpeting with laminate flooring

We are buying a 1999 Excella Classic that is completely carpeted. We prefer to have laminate everywhere except the bedroom. Is it recommended to have the laminate installed by a reputable dealer or can the laminate be installed by a carpenter? Thanks for your input. Mary

IMHO, anyone that feels themselves to be the least bit "handy with tools" can install laminate flooring.

Heck, even I have done it many times!

There are several threads on the Forum on the various products available for installng replacement floors in Airstreams. We replaced ours with vinyl plank Allure from Home Depot and it was is beautiful, serviceable, and very easy to install. But you will find several other products detailed in the Forums so pick the one that best fits your unit and color scheme.

My wife and I also replaced the carpeting in our 97 Safari with vinyl planking. The product had a thin layer of foam underlay attached and was floated and secured by mouldings. It was extremely easy to keep clean and much lighter than laminate flooring. We made a pattern out of brown paper, cut it with utility knives, and flopped it into place. did not regret it for an instant. Small Indian rugs appropriately placed kept the chill off in the bedroom and living room. The small rugs were also easy to clean outside. Great project for improving and personalizing your Airstream.
