Replacement Wheel Tubs

I'm beginning to reassemble my '73 Globetrotter, and have concluded that the old plastic wheel tubs aren't worth repairing. It doesn't look like replacement plastic tubs are available anywhere for a single axle trailer, so I have been considering building some out of sheet metal.

I have seen tubs made for race cars on Ebay that go for as little as $100 for the pair (but the fit isn't right for me), and I have talked to local sheet metal fab shops that estimate $200 to $300+ for the pair.

Anyone out there already gone through this? Any recommendations, words of caution, etc?

Most owners of single axle Airstreams, buy the tandem wheel well covers.

They then cut the center section out, and then overlap the two ends to fit however they need them to be.

Also, much cheaper that way.
