raising the trailer

I need to raise my 23' safari to rust treat the frame. I need to take the wheels off for a weekend. Do I need jack stands or will the floor jack suffice? if so , what rating of jack do I need? (the listed weight is 3700#)

Where to put the jacks???

There should be a couple of "Jack Here" signs on your trailer, and they also should be indicated in your owners manual.....

Here's the REST of the story....

You will probably have to figure the best possible solution for your unique set-up of stationary jacks, hydraulic jack(s) and the frame access of your Safari. Don't forget to leave room to get the belly pan off and back on should you need to access parts of the frame hidden by the belly pan.

I would not attempt to work on the trailer while a hydraulic jack is supporting the trailer...too many things to go wrong.

I would suggest a minimum of 4 stationary jacks to be used...and having said that, please be advised you will have to be very careful in deciding on a hydraulic jack point, the placement of the stationary jacks, and the procedure of actually placing the jacks under the trailer.

Stationary jacks are not that expensive - you should be able to rent them at most rental stores for about 1/2 of what you could buy a set of jacks at Sears, Pep Boys, NAPCO, or similar retail store.

Remember, when you are working under the trailer, more (back-up) support is really better.

Luck....

I see you have a similar rig to mine..do you know where I can get the blue vinyl insert trim for the 2 rails (the top one is thinner than the lower one..and I'm not sure what I'm asking for when I think about width...)
Thanks,
Anthony

Inland RV has it in stock. I get my hard to find parts there.
I actually just stumbled on the upper thinner trim last week, worked a deal out with the former owner of it

Deja vu all over again...

Anthony -- Look at the http://www.airforums.com/forum...ine-16111.html thread. I don't have to say who I'd try first! They even have had the orange Argosy beltline when it has been very hard to find. Neither Oasis or Inland RV are particularly interested in working over email. That being said, Oasis is half or less the price on wa-a-ay too many identical items! And Oasis has been foolproof when I've discussed my needs with a real human -- their entire service staff knows their stuff!

On the other hand -- Inland seems to have dug up many out-of-production items. I wonder if they don't even commission new manufacture...?

This is Phil jacking up my Argosy before he removed the belly pan last week.

The photos will show you the way to do it.

I don’t think you want to use the “jack here” points. Those are for stabilizing I think.

You need to lift and support on the Axle Mounting Plates as shown.

Phil used two “I” beam cross members with a hydraulic car jack placed in the centre. You lift both sides of the frame in unison this way; first from the rear of the tires, then in front – just a few inches at a time, back and forth. It didn’t take long. Maybe 15 or 20 minutes.

When Phil got the trailer to the working height he wanted he further stabilized the unit by putting a saw horse under the front of the frame, near the main trailer jack.

Renting is only cheaper in the short run. If you will need the jacks for more than a day or two it will be cheaper to buy.
