POR-15 Question

I need to order some POR for treating just the frame area under the bathroom floor of my Overlander. This stuff is rather $$$$$. Would a pint be enough? I have never used it before so I do not know the coverage area.

Is POR the only stuff to use or can I use something less expensive?

Thanks
Mel

A pint goes a long way...it'll probably be enough. It really is worth the money - if your'e going to the effort to fix things, do it right.

a pint should be plenty for just the back end. Make sure you where long sleeves, gloves and a face shield if your working over head. It's great stuff, but like it says on the can, If it dries on your skin, Only time will remove it. That's pretty accurate. Don't ask me how I know. George

Have everything ready to paint. Once you have opened the can the whole pint needs to be used at the same time. If you get any in the rim of the can and close it back up you will not get the lid back off. Don't ask me how I know.

I poured some in a plastic container & used what I needed that way, not out of the can. You can use a baggie across the top of the can & put the lid back on over the baggie for the unused portion. Then, keep what you have left in the refrigerator. Keeps forever that way. Wear a hat too---it doesn't come out of your hair. Don't ask me how I know.

I have been using KBS Rust Seal works just as good if not better! It's 36.00 for a quart. I thought por-15 was the only product like this, then we found KBS at a car show last month.

I just last week opened up a 13 year old quart can of POR 15. I had used less than half of it back then and sealed it up very tightly, no plastic. There was indeed some on the rim of the can when I sealed it. It took me about 5 minutes of prying to get the lid off, and the recessed rim of the can was pulled upward completely - no resealing the can a second time! The remaining POR now resides in a glass jar, sealed tightly. The can had set in my garage on a shelf for the entire 13 years, going through freeze and thaw cycles each year. I stirred it for a few minutes and it was ready to go.

I painted the tongue of my Tradewind, and time will tell if the POR will perform properly or if it has been compromised. It did take a few days for a small spot to wear off my hand . . . .

The moral of the story - POR is good stuff, and if you don't use it all immediately, seal it tightly and don't give up on it, I think.
