4th Anniversary!

September marks the 4th anniversary of the acquisition of my '72 Trade Wind 25'. I thought I would post a few pics of how things are looking now. I was reluctant to believe that I would make it this far at times. After a few set-backs...and long long winters...I think I have turned the corner...and can actually see myself going camping soon. Of course, there is still lots to do. But at this point....I can see myself...going camping in style!

Wow! Last time we saw your trailer, it was an empty shell and we were working on wiring. Looking great!

I dropped in unannounced last week to Arktosville & yup, it's true, saw it with my own eyes.

Pssst - 2nd aft plywood flooring panel blemished, hard reset & shell off immediately...

He's almost done and it's done well.

w/ front end cap out for crack fix, R&R corroded segments above front window NOW...

He has got interior quite lush but handsomely reserved, pleasing to spend time in.

g'won and install those Star Trek pneumatic pocket doors you saw online...

It'll be quite the giggle to see y'all bopping down Big Sur or tooling above the tree line in the Rockies, we're all pulling for youse!

everyone agrees it'd tow nicer as a 5th wheel hitch, yup be just a weekend project...

It looks very nice. Particularly like the bathroom counters clean and spacious look.

There's hope for us yet.

LOL! There WILL be blemishes....I've learned perfection is unattainable...and gives me something to work on for the next 4 years.

Yes, those pesky blemishes!! I'll be attacking those again very soon.

I would love to install a door that goes "whoosh" when I push a button on my Star Trek communicator. That would be awesome!!

HeeHee....

Further Lavatory Work

Vessel sinks with a narrow base are probably not the best idea for a moving installation, as they will tend to rock and put strain on the drain...maybe loosen up and cause leaks. So, for my installation, I cut an 8 inch diameter hole on a 45 degree angle, so I would be able to set the bowl down into the hole and secure it with some Tempro and a bead of color matched caulk around the base. I will then construct a gusset plate with a 1.25 inch hole to be attached on the underside of the counter top...which will give me a solid surface to tighten the drain nut securely.

I also installed the new faucet today.

On the left side of the cabinet will be a pull out rack for lavatory necessities.

Next will come a glass tile backsplash....when I can find something reasonable.

Thieves Thwarted!

Well...somebody finally tried their best to make off with my Trade Wind in the night. My coupler lock was bent, but they didn't quite get it off (thankfully). I raced all around town on Labor Day, trying to find a replacement, but everybody had the same pieces of junk. So I thwarted their efforts by parking my F250 in front of the Airstream and slapping padlocks on the X-chocks and coupler release (to slow them down a tad). I then ordered a cast aluminum Blaylock from eTrailer. I think it will do until Santa brinks me a Vault for Christmas. I almost opted for a wireless security camera setup (as I don't live on site). But then I figured I wouldn't sleep at night...watching the feed on my smartphone.

Coming to the end of a long journey

A few more pictures of the progress on the interior. Electronics are all up front in a custom cabinet. Dinette with storage and battery compartment, pillows and cushions, a nice kickin' bluetooth stereo, CB radio, remote battery monitor, usb charging station, 120v outlets, secondary battery monitor and enough room on top for a nice TV. And the kitchen is almost complete too, with new countertop, double sink, microwave, electromagnetic cook top.

I am pleased that the end is finally in sight....though there will always be little things to tweak along the way.

Almost time to go camping!

HOLY BUCKETS!!! Wow, looks very nice! I'd say, past time to go camping!
We STILL have a punch list of things to do (probably always will....)

LOL, Kay. Yes, those punch lists can be long and very annoying at times. Mine is still a couple of pages, at least...

4 years into my Full Monte, and my brand new Dometic Penguin II a/c unit has been sitting up there...installed for at least 2 years...but waiting for all the connections to be made. I finally got around to unpacking the thermostat and installing it. I removed the a/c protective cover (now covered with dirt and tree rot) from the Dometic. Connected and fired up my twin Honda gennies. Threw the circuit breaker, adjusted the thermostat...and WHOLLAAAAA!!! It blows like a hurricane and sounds like a jet engine....but it works! Now I just need to get a 30amp shoreline, so I can use the a/c without the Hondas while at home. Supposed to be hot again next week...and last week, I achieved 99.7 degrees inside the AS.

A question for anyone who might have an idea: The place where I am working on my Trade Wind, is a very small house with 100amp service, central air...and the usual appliances. Can anyone tell me if it is even possible / safe to add a 30amp RV outlet to such a set up, without having to upgrade the house's service? Thanks!

No problem on adding a 30 amp RV outlet. You just can't operate a lot of house stuff while you are running the Airstream AC.

In the mean time I would just use an extension cord (#12 wire) and plug into a 20 amp house receptacle to run the AC. Same limitation on operating a lot of house stuff at the same time, but don't worry. If you are pulling too much current the main 100amp breaker will trip.

Depending on how far your coach is from the power panel in the house I would not run the coach A/C on an extension cord.
The 100 amp panel should suffice. Do you have an electric range and clothes dryer in the house? If so just manage the devices where you don't overload the 100 amp panel.
30 amps is only (3,600 watts). Nothing compared to an electric range or clothes dryer.

Thanks for the input. I have access to a 20amp outlet to power up most of the Trade Wind, some of the time. But that outlet is also shared by other systems in the house, including the fridge. So, at times...there's barely enough juice to pass muster with the AS surge protector (sometimes as little as 104amps). Will probably get that outlet put on it's own breaker. So it is good to know that with proper house appliance management, I can still install a 30amp shore outlet.
