Outrigger length does not match width of floor/shell

Quick(ish) question on frame related issue with outrigger length.

I'm working on redesigning a new frame for a 1969 Sovereign 31. It appears the width of my frame (end of end of outriggers) is 91". See attached photo.

HOWEVER, the width of my subfloor and width of my shell at the subfloor is 92 5/8". The measurements were so far off, I have now re-measured it three separate times to make sure I'm not making things up.

Therefore, the shell was basically overhanging the outriggers by 13/16" on both sides of the trailer. While designing the new frame, I would like to increase my outrigger length so that the width across outriggers is now 92 1/2" and better supports the shell.

Before I do this....is there something I am missing? This seems like a straightforward solution, but I'm struggling to find other good examples and figured maybe there's a reason the outriggers are cut short? My existing outriggers, for reference, are 14 3/4" long.

I spent the last 30 mins looking for this question/answer on the forums with no luck, so my apologies if it has been answered already.

Thanks!
Jared

Most subfloors I’ve seen overhang the outrigger by 3/4”. Most of the time the elevator bolt was installed at the end of the outrigger through the C channel and subfloor. I don’t think it matters on the exact length of the outrigger as long as it spans far enough out to catch/secure the C channel and shell. Just keep in mind how the banana wrap turns at the bottom and connects to the belly pan. You don’t want the outrigger out too far and it pokes through the outer skin someday. Good luck

As Bubba mentioned you don't want interference between the outrigger and your wraps. I suspect you're concerned about support for the shell as I was. That's why I added a perimeter of square tubing to the frame to support the shell. It also eliminates the subfloor from being sandwiched between the shell and frame.

Not sure if you have the newer floor channel or not on a 69. Mine was just a simple U channel with the subfloor bolted below it next to the frame.

I added a piece on the end of the outriggers to protect the wraps from being damaged by the outriggers.

Look forward to seeing what you come up with on your frame design.

Have you ever heard of drip edging on a house so the water will drip off of the house onto the ground. If there is not an overhang on a house, the water coming off of the building and would wick into the home. I would suggest the same would be for a trailer......the water comes off of the sides and drop to the ground with a small overhang, otherwise it would wick into the subfloor of the trailer.

Thanks, guys, for the quick responses. This helps a lot.

I also wondered if it would mess up the radius of the outrigger edge, so I will likely plan to increase the top face of the outrigger to 15 1/2" but keep the lower face at 11 3/4" existing length, which will give a little more cushion and 'swooped' appearance.

Harold - I thought about your setup as well and how I like that. I'm definitely planning to add a curved perimeter support to the rear corners where it is sorely needed. I failed to mention that my outriggers will be made from rect. tube, so I will have more face area pressing against the shell to prevent shearing through.
