Please, we need help. We have a 31 foot 1974
Sovereign. We have been renovating it with the dream of full timing and seeing the country as a family. As with many renovations, it has grown into a longer and more complex project than we thought it would be, and right now, we are stuck. We have two main issues with our frame, and we have been unable to find anyone who can fix them.
The first problem is due to some rust corrosion. On the bottom of the front main rails, there was considerable rust corrosion. We had the frame media blasted to remove the compromised material. Now we are trying to repair the damaged areas so that it is road worthy again.
The second problem is frame sway in the back end. Due to what I saw when we took the Airstream apart, I’m confident the Airstream was hit in the back at some point. Unfortunately, it was not properly straightened, and there is still a sway in the rear. It sways toward the passenger side of the trailer.
Today alone, I visited three repair shops and called around to 5 more in the Kansas City area. Some shops don’t have the insurance to work on a frame, while others don’t have the tools for a frame this big. We have been diligent in our search with no luck. Our goal is simply to have a solid and reliable frame that we can use to finish rebuilding our trailer, and get on the road. Obviously, it would be preferable to find someone within a days drive of the Kansas City area that could fix this, although, I’m open to people and options that might be farther away.
Thank you so much for your help with our dream.
