linoleum repair

Dropped a heavy pointed object on the floor of my 08 Safari and left a small ding that tore the Linolium.
It's about as big as the nail on your little finger, very small but don't want water to get under there.
The flooring is not glued to the actual floor so glueing it doesn't seem like a good idea.
Does anyone know the proper method for repair in this situation?
Help please and thank you

First, are you talking about true linoleum or vinyl? If it is linoleum the proper method to begin with is to glue the flooring down to the floor. If you don't want to glue the tear to the floor you may be able to glue the edges together. The recommended adhesive for linoleum is different than vinyl.

the flooring is vinyl in most of the new units...

and only attached at the perimeter or where INTERIOR bits fix to the subfloor.

i can imagine one of 2 approaches depending on size and location...

1. slip a thin backing material through the hole, then fill the spot with vinyl putty ~ the matching color.

-when dry sand smooth

2. enlarge the hole and sharply define the borders (circle, square, rectangle)

-again insert a backing sheet with adhesive facing UP.

-cut a section of fresh vinyl with the pattern matching at the edges and attach it to the backing sheet

-then carefully glue at the edges which will be ON the backing sheet...
____________

because the sheet vinyl is floating, any attempt to patch or glue that sticks to the plywood subfloor will be an issue.

good luck
