help, quick!

Hi,
Husband started cutting plywood for the new floor today. What bug got in him in this mini-heatwave I'll never know, I'm too happy to ask.

Any advice?

Bolts: what size, and what kind? Stainless steel?

Last question: Anyone wanna come help? Free iced tea and BBQ tonight.

Ingrid can't help on the floor, but the iced tea and BBQ sounds good. It would take about 3 days for me to get there. I didn't think people outside of the south drank iced tea. sweet I hope.

Ingrid,
If you are talking about the bolts on the outriggers I used 1/4"-20x 3" stainless steel cap screws.

Glad to see things progressing.Do a search for elevator bolts.Lots of info here on the forums.I used zinc plated steel. In the outer "U" channel I used 1/4" bolts that were 1 1/4" long. They were also zinc plated.I would also suggest that they be grade 5 bolts (3 lines on bolt head) anything cheaper will just break.

It's a simple recipe.
1-Add 1 quart fresh-brewed tea to 1 cup sugar.
2- Stir.
3- Drink.
4- Fly around the house.

Here is OUR recipe

Get a 2 quart sauce pan

Put about 1.5 quarts of water in it
add 1-1/14cups of sugar
bring to boil, remove from heat
add tea bags...we use the family size and use 5 of them
allow to cool at least for 1/2 hour
pour over ice in a gallon pitcher and add enough water to make a full gallon.

Now if my wife it making it...double the sugar

DOESN'T ANYONE CARE ABOUT MY FLOOOOOR??????

just kidding. you all crack me up.

BTW; iced tea is sort of passe' here in we-think-we're-so-hip Northern CA. If it's not a flavored water or a super-caffeinated herbal whatever with a rock and roll name, it's "nothing". Especially if you can get it for less than $50 a case.

So, here:

Decide how many teabags you wanna brew. Split them in 1/2, half being black tea (Lipton) and the other a fruit flavored tea. Brew. Add ice, sugar and some passe' sweetener like Equal or Sweet'n'Low, Splenda if you can afford it, and drink.

Don't tell anyone I drink iced tea! They might mistake me for someone with a trailer in my driveway.

Pictures of the floor battle soon.

Ingrid, everyone KNOWS us Airstream millionaires can afford Splenda.
At least we were discussing tea, and not what we just found in our holding tanks...

Ingrid:

On the bolts - use as large a washer as will fit in the "C" channel to distribute the clamping and pull-through forces on as large an area as possible. Use large washers on the underside, also, if no other metal is present as the bolt heads will quickly wear a hole through the naked plywood.

I feel that the use of a "Nylock" or similar nut on the bolts is very important to prevent the bolts from loosening...as hard as they are to get to after you button up the interior. The "Nylock" nut has a sort of plastic insert on the end and replaces (or assists) the conventional "lock washer".

I drilled and installed a few more 1/4" bolts around the rear perimeter of the '78 sovereign than Airstream originally had...I tried to put a bolt wherever a steel crossmember met the "C" channel.

On the final fitting - don't force it - I remember well the words of an old farmer uncle of mine - "if it don't fit easy it ain't fit right".

The aluminum will give a bit if you try to force the floor, but a perfect initial fit is much more prefered.
