Front Tie Down

I'm fastening my new frame and shell back together and came accross a question, it was just sitting there. Ha Ha Anyway, on the front tie down plate, with the two rows of rivets holding it to the body. There is nothing attaching it to the actual frame, I thought maybe it pulled up against the angle iron cross member but the original one did not, it just hung down into the space between the a-frame.

Is this correct?

No, I'm pretty sure it should be welded to the chassis. If it isn't, you can't call it a hold down plate because it won't be holding anything down.
Mine was attached to the A frame.

That was what I thought. Where is yours welded ? Mine was just loose.
Of course the body hasn't flown off for 35 years.

Best I can tell it is welded to the inside and top of the A-frame rails.

Thanks for the information, you been a great help. I wonder if riveting it to the angle crossmember would work ? I would hate to move the trailer before I finish all of the body attachments. It is sitting leveled on stands, and I don't have a welder at home.

There is a steel angle section that goes between the two frame rails, it sits directly under the front shell mount. Mine was welded to that
