I used to wander out to the garage and see Don's legs sticking out from under the vehicles and figured he is working... see once I spoke to him and startled him and he hit his head... so I try not to "sneak" up on him while under a vehicle. However, one day I decided after many years of marriage to see what he was doing "under there" ~ lo and behold he WAS NAPPING!!!! Now that doesn't move the "honey-do" list along very fast....

We head out for Silver Falls in the morning. We will spend the first nite in Cottage Grove Lake just out of Cottage Grove, Or. Thought I'd include a picture of Bambi ready for her first trip.

Don - I hope everyones elses trailers at the Silver Falls Rally aren't as nice looking as yours. I'm going to feel like an outcast with my partially compounded - part oxidized, part semi-shiny trailer.

Looks great - aspiring to have mine that shiny some day.

Well, now that you actually saw the exterior of our Bambi you clearly know it isn't very shiny! When Don posted the picture, I asked him how did he get it to look so good! Luck, I guess. Or maybe it was secret photoshop work... Your door was much much brighter than ours! We still have a ways to go too! We polished our teardrop a few years ago and I thought that was plenty of work! Maybe a nice aged patina is better...

Made arrangements for a new axle today. I'll go with a Dexter with new brakes, wheels, tires, and small moon caps. The Dexter will have the trailer changing from 13" wheels to 14" wheels. Anyone have any comments. It's not to late to make changes. Bambi suspended in mid-air waiting for new axle.

I can't wait to hear how these work out... I have a feeling that I'll have to replace the axles on my trailer in the near future since it's just about the only thing that isn't slated to be replaced so far

Does your trailer have torsion or springs? If it has springs a spring company can re-curve them if necessary.

I do have springs. I also had the bearings replaced and repacked recently. When they recurve them, can they also increase the carrying capacity? I believe that's done by adding new leaves, right? That's the main thing I'm concerned about as I'm adding probably close to 1,000 pounds of new weight to my trailer (when loaded).

Adding 1000lbs to you trailer may not be a good idea. There has been much discussion on the forum about increasing the load capacity of out Airstreams. My understanding is that our trailers are moving flexing shells etc. Adding that much extra load my cause serious problems down the road. Sorry about the bun. I suggest you start a new thread with the question of " Can I add a 1000 lbs to my trailers load limit". and see what kind of answers you get. I read of examples of trailers having the back half or the trailer breaking and sagging. I don't really know the details on this. But I have read several threads that mention this. I'd be interested it what kind of response you get.

I have added some load capacity to my '59 Tradewind single axle. In my situation, all the added weight is as close to the axle as possible. The new greywater tank is just ahead of the axle, the A/C is directly above the axle, and the new batteries are right ahead of the wheel well.

I added one leaf to the spring pack. That increased the capacity by about 800 lbs. There are leaf spring calculators you can use to estimate the load capacity increase.

I wouldn't bother to re-arch the existing springs. Unless the shop has full heat-treat capability (most don't), it is a temporary fix.
