I am installing new plywood floor in my 1955 Safari.
The flashing around the wheel wells is shot and needs replaced.
The old flashing is just an L shape that was attached to the frame under the plywood and the wheel well on the inside of the trailer.
Does any one have suggestions or points on adding a water tight enclosure around the wheel wells?
I am posting pictures of the old wheel well on my '55 Safari.
I have cleaned up and rust coated the frame and am now ready to re-flash the wheel wells.
here is a more recent photo...frame cleaned and rust coated...ready to flash wheel wells.
Should I flash the same as the original? Or is there a better way?
Thanks!!!
I am in the process of restoring/ repairing a 62 Safari here in Arizona and after
Contacting a number of HVAC and sheet metal shops in the area found one that will duplicate the pair for $120.00 which is a great deal compared to one quote of
$600.00 for the pair. Check around their are still honest people around.
Thinking this over a bit I am beginning to understand that the aluminum "flashing" I need to replace is mostly to attach the wheel well to the frame.
The important sealing and flashing of the wheel well will really take place when I start work on the belly pan and the outside part of the wheel well.
I have purchased 5052H32 Aluminum - .025 *COIL* Aluminum for my Airstream belly pan for necessary repairs.
I plan to attach repair pieces with Sikaflex 221 and rivets. Hopefully this will seal up the underside and keep out the mice and water.
I don't think I need to replace the wheel wells - just repair and seal.
