That kind of damage will buff right out.

Could make a great walk in smoker. You could do an entire cow in there

Damaged Airstream

Hmm.
Here's what I've learned (the hard way) over the years whether it be automobile, motorcycle, or airplane: The best bargain you'll ever get is to search out the most pristine, lowest mile example you can find, and pay what is required to acquire.

"Fixer Uppers" almost always wind up costing more in the long run, and that will be with your discounting your free sweat equity.

(I do still get caught up in the lure of a low price occasionally, but my very smart wife quickly reminds me of other "bargains" that have bitten me in the past!

Hi, a sample of yes you can do it is shown on my YouTube channel, Airstream Carpenter.
I have a 67 Airstream Safari 22 that was a rolling wreck, I had to fix it up to work on it. I make up my own rules, but you have to be ruthless and in a hurry or you will be at it for ten years. You can cut, hammer, patch, and glue, and make yourself a camper that looks OK and is fun to take camping. If you like to customize things and make special choices, it might could be done. What they said about value and restoring to original is right. If you want to make yourself a camper out of Airstream parts and pieces from a lumber store, you need a big barn. https://youtu.be/z0fXWWqwgsc

To summarize...

You might be better off fixing the Excella by taking parts (interior?) from this one. Although,
  • The skins are not the same aluminum alloy - won't match each other
  • Window locations are different
  • The width & height dimensions are not the same - panels/furniture won't fit without modification
  • The curves are different - furniture fit to the curves won't fit at all
  • The appliances are all in different locations - cabinets won't match up with current appliance locations in Excella
  • Damage appears to only be on one side...I'm sure the entire trailer is 'tweaked'
  • If it was 'easy to fix' why aren't they (or the insurance company!) doing it?
  • This one falls in the category of a "Everything worked last time we used it" listing...I'm sure it did!

Nah, hard pass on this one!

Hmmm...I just noticed the originator of this thread posted it at 5:59am on 5/26. This is their only post and they have not been logged back on since 6:00am 5/26. So not been around to read the replies. Hopefully, they passed on the "deal".

Not logging in doesn’t mean he hasn’t been following the posts. To be honest, he could be forgiven for thinking he’d fallen in with a tough crowd!
We still love you, OP!

Hi

These questions often are a bit binary. If the answer is "yes do it" the OP has a reason to continue the conversation. If the overwhelming feedback is "nope", the project is dropped and they go on to Plan B ( which may be a brand new SOB ).

Indeed I have bumped into several folks who have a "going to rebuild it" AS sitting there. They are doing all their camping in a nice new this or that (purchased after they really dug into the AS). Simple economics, they add up the cost + time and make a decision.

Or . . . . , they already bought it, came looking for vidication, then decided to stay away to avoid being flamed.

Let's hope it's the former, and not the latter.

Hi

I'd also hope that *if* it is the later *and* they were willing to admit they bought it, we all would pitch in to try to help them rather than simply pile on with more "you never should have done that" stuff .... It very much *is* up to them what they do.
