Argosy rear end main rail frame repair

During the process of pulling apart the rear end to replace the rotten rear cross member, I discovered a fairly large split in the main frame rail. Behind the axel just under the battery box. May have been from water damage or even a battery leak. Does anyone have advise for the best way to go about the repair? It is a 74 Agosy 22.Click image for larger version

Ez weld in a new pice just let a welder do it thay will know what to do ez

Would a welder normally weld in a patch to the rail or cut it out an weld a new piece in?
