1969 Overlander renovation

I'm doing a shell on renovation of our 1969 Overlander, primarily because of rear end separation due to the bathroom floor rotting out. Can anyone tell me, is the C channel that sits on top of the plywood supposed to be overhanging it to the outside by 1/2"? Everywhere I can see on the trailer this is the case. Many thanks for your feedback!

It does not make sense to me that there would be a 1/2" gap, but I really don't know. You may want to post some photos.

I agree pictures would help. My C channel was recessed in a few places (small) by maybe 1/8 inch.
