Marzboy, I went with the dometic penguin and it does a good job. Be sure to inspect the unit closely when you get it. Most of the metal is VERY thin and if it's dropped during shipping it will collapse on itself. It's poorly packaged.

I ended up getting a replacement. But the unit works well. No complaints so far.

Sweet! Im actually ordering mine thru Uwe @ Area 63 so hopfully he will make sure it is handled correctly.

Had a great time at Modernism Week in Palm Springs. Saw a bunch of incredible trailers, got some ideas. I think I may be charging my interior lay out to rear bedroom mid bath, oh noooooooooo...

Marzboy, Did you check out the different noise levels in the units? The penguin unit looks very nice, I like the look inside and out, Just wandering if it is like the standard unit found in all the white boxes I have had? which were pretty noisy to operate. I have been trying to decide which way to go, I installed wire and drain for the roof or possible finding a window unit to fit under our bed?

The Modernization show looks like it would have been fun! Nice pictures.

Do you have more pics from Palm Springs? I'd love to see the trailers... and that bus looks pretty cool! DId you tour the houses? Some of our friends helped sponsor the event, and had a couple of houses that they redid on the tour. Love that '50's MCM stuff!

I didnt notice any loud noise from any a/c units. But sadly I didnt take note if they were turned on, damn!
I did notice that they had one on the New 2012 Concept Airstream I walked around in. And I loved that you cant really see it on top of the trailer. I think that you will hear noise regardless of location. I you want to relocate your ac to the interior of your trailer, talk to Uwe @ Area 63. He does a lot of that type of install. He is a great guy with lots of info.

They own a design / consultant company... H3K design H3K Design - H3K Design (I think they were one of the titling sponsors). Kevin and Howard... two great guys with wonderful visions... we went to college together. I drool everytime they show us one of their newest houses...

I just checked out your pics... WOW! There's so much coolness there! I like that pop up and that EU trailer... did they pull that with their BMW 2002??

Your friends firm looks awsome! What did you go to school for? I think I saw their name on the sponsor list. I walked around and saw a couple things besides the trailers. I love all the post modern stuff in Palm Springs area.
I know! The EU trailer was a great trailer and I think they pulled it with that little Beemer. My fav of the show was the Silver Streak. That guy went thru hell doing that one. He basically re did EVERYTHING! Next time my wife hates on me for taking so much time on my project, I will just remind her about the Silver Streak

Hey Marz... I went to USC for nursing (I now work in a pediatric ICU)... they did Urban Planning. I know, it ALWAYS takes longer than you think to do these things!

Yes, the houses are AMAZING out there... if you ever get a chance to tour some of them, TAKE IT!

I think it was the Silver Streak with the all wood interior?? It seemed so warm, like a boat interior. Excellent craftsmanship!

I got the last of my fantastic Fans in along with a couple odds and ends things.

Just tieing up a few loose ends with the exterior. I have been scrapeing caulking out of every crevice on the exterior of the shell. Very unfun, unsexy, etc. But it is very inspiring how emblems came out.

Made a parts run yesterday. Went to Inland Rv and bought the rest of the hardware to finish my windows, exterior lights, oh and huge bonus....a door frame mold to weld my door frame back together!!! Greg is such a cool guy. He has so much knowledge in his head I could talk to him all day! Also picked up my A/C from Uwe at Area 63, also great guy. Its so funny when I started this project nearly 2 years ago this August I knew nothing. But now with the help of these forums great people and a few friends I am almost done with this monster task. So thanks to all!
Got the A/C installed yesterday, now my friend Paul wants to tackle the door today. That's crazy talk!

Great progress and I am jealous you live so close to suppliers. Here we have to haul it in on covered wagons once the spring thaw is over. I would love to be able to go to a place in person and see what I am buying before I commit to it. Love the pictures and descriptions on your progress.

@ Sandy Yes having the suppliers close is pretty great. Its so nice to sit and chat with people who know what I'm talking about face to face.
@Hiho Thank you, I am trying to do all tasks large and small. It helps me to see the bigger picture when I have made a bit of visual progress. Where are you going on your big trip? I fantasize about that day, only it gets interrupted when parts start falling off on the road.
@ Marc I can wait to use this thing! Its a jig that Greg made out of wood to match the curve of the trailer. He let me use it so I will return it when I am done. How cool is he!!?? The frame is made of cast Aluminum, so I will take it to an expert. From what I understand, you need special welding rods to weld and fill cast AL. It all depends on the composition of the cast AL. Also it needs to be TIG welded, and that takes waaaaay more skill than I have. I am planning on photo documenting this step very carefully so stay tuned....

I guess the last question is "what happened to the door?" My guess is that it sprung open while traveling before you? Is it cracked?

I've heard that aluminum takes special skills... took a welding class btw. I'm ready to go get a welder and attack my frame now! I know you said this before... but which one did you get? Did you use the gas MIG or did you do flux core wire with your frame repair? I had fun with it! Made a metal cat....

Not sure what happened to the door but it is broken. I guess that is pretty common with these cast doors. Glad to hear you're welding, be careful it gets addicting. I walk around the neighborhood saying to my wife "I can weld that gate" etc. I got a Lincoln 180 T MIG. You can run flux core (inner shield) if you want, I used .035 wire and gas. MIG is cleaner, prettier welds. Flux is fuzzy, more spatter. If you MIG I would have the frame sandblasted then on the areas you are welding grind the metal surface slightly til you see "white" shinny metal. And before any of you guys get crazy with the stick vs MIG comments, I can not stick weld. meow.
