Dry weight - 1979 28' Ambassador

Hi Yall!

I am looking at a "29ft 1979 ambassador" (This is what it is listed as). The seller is saying the "original manual" states the dry weight as 7200lbs. I though that sounded like a lot. Everything I have looked at says the weight is 4700. What gives? This is my first trailer, so please tell me what I'm missing. I will be using a Sequoia at a TV (max weight 7200lbs).

Thanks!

7200# sounds more like the total weight of trailer and cargo. According to AS Spec sheet on their website, if it is a twin bed the dry(tare) weight is 4630 lbs(#). The 28' w/double bed has a tare weight of 4690#. Hitch weight for the tb version is 550# and the db version hitch weight is 575#. YOu need to look at the tongue(hitch) weight your TV is able to handle also. Hope this helps. FYI that model cost $16k new, just to give you an idea the deal you got.

Weight and Thanks!

Thanks yall! The manual says my Sequoia's tow capacity is 7400 and max tongue weight is 950. It sounds like it could handle it, correct?

Sounds like it can handle that trailer, but I would talk to the dealer to be on the safe side. That is if there is a dealer close to you.
Glad I could help. You can go to airstream.com then click on owners. once you do that click on document archives, select the year you want and it will bring up some of the old documents for your year of AS. They are PDF files. That is were I found what you needed for your 79 AS along with the info on my 76
