Ambassador near Sarasota, FL?

Hello everyone. My family has a 1972 Ambassador near Sarasota Florida and the interior was completed gutted prior to purchase. I am looking for anyone near the area that would allow us to take a look at your complete trailer so we can take some measurements of the interior for a rebuild.

I live in Marietta, GA and would be interested in looking at one near me as well if possible.

Thank you in advance and safe travels to everyone this holiday season!

Welcome to these Airstream Forums and the vintage Airstream hobby. I've renovated a 70s trailer and kinda know how they were built. Most are rear bath, then bedroom (double or twin), then the kitchen, and finally a "living room" in front with a couch that folds down to a bed, and a fold up table for eating.

Maybe someone removed the interior of your trailer and then left it. Happens now and then. So you have a "blank slate" so to speak. So it is likely you will be designing and building your own interior just exactly as you like.

You will also want to check the axles, frame and subfloor. No use in building a new interior on bad bones.

Check out the Knowledgebase at the bottom of the Forums page. Then click on 72 Ambassador. You can read all about your trailer and how people have renovated them.

Post some photos when you get a chance. I have a 75 Overlander 27' that I renovated. Here are some photos that may help a bit.

Morning David and thank you for your reply!

Yes we are starting with a "blank slate" so wanted to see the same Airstream with it's original structure to get some ideas. We will more than likely build it more like a tiny home than a traditional travel trailer as my family is on the water and it would be perfect for a liveaboard.

Love the pictures and as soon as I get back down there I will take some more pictures to share.

Thanks again and have a great day!

Chad

Here are two Airstream websites I use quite a bit. The first is a link to the Airstream, Inc. documentation. If you search travel trailers, then model year 1972 you can see the floor layouts offered that year. That may give you some ideas.

The second is a vintage Airstream Resource that has a photo section where folks have posted photos of their year, and model trailers. Find Ambassador and 1972 and see photos of how your trailer may have come from the factory.

You may have already visited these sites, but here they are again.

The floor plan for an extended living arrangement might be different than a travel trailer. The rear bath might be okay, plan sleeping space for everyone, likely a bigger fridge, design eating room for all like a U shaped dinette in front. There is not much storage room in an Airstream, but your 29' has more than many of them. It's gonna be a big project.
