Very nice

That's looking really good. I like the way the light-colored wood and the aluminum go together. I've heard that if you hold you phone horizontal when you take the photos, they won't flip when you post them. I always do it and haven't had one flip yet.

That is quite a heater you installed. I wonder what type it is. I bet it will heat your Ambassador very well. Maybe a guy needs a fan to blow the heat to the back of the trailer.

I friend gave me a 20 year old pellet stove last winter. I installed it in my shop to supplement my propane heater. It works quite well, and it is very efficient and clean burning. It has a distribution fan as well as an exhaust fan. The instructions say they make them for mobile homes also.

bathroom sink and counter installed. starting on the shower. found an interesting backerboard. it is a polystyrene with a mesh cement coating. extremely lightweight. my plan is to glue some sort of laminate to it

Backer board

That looks like the Wedi board. Great product. I used it for my shower. I put in subway tile with a glass accent. Installed for almost 2 years with 6000 miles. No issues. You can see the shower installed on my thread “argosy redo” under the trailer section. Your build is looking great.

making more progress and getting closer to getting on the road. ceiling panels at the vents and fans are mostly finished. i don't like the plastic trim pieces that come with the vents and fans. i am thinking about maybe painting them or just making some out of wood. shower wall is up and the tile backer is installed. going to work on shower getting it sealed up. once that is complete i am going to seal up the underbelly and hopefully get a couple short trips in this fall.

Nice finish

I sure like the look of the aluminum next to the wood! The lights look great and the counters will be really nice.

I went back and scanned this blog and you've been on quite the journey since 2018. You are creating something very special, almost from scratch. Your design and execution are top of class level. Can't wait to see it when it's all done, but do enjoy camping now that you can. Camping might even influence future design decisions.

I do have a couple of questions:
  • The light wood for the bath wall I am assuming is plywood. How thick did you use?
  • I love the aluminum superstructure of your cabinets, how do you plan to face them?
  • Are the counters glued up hardwood? Very pretty.
  • What is your plan to face the bath walls?
Thanks - Mark

Looking good! You do really nice work. BTW, if you hold your I phone sideways when you take the pics, most of them will post without flipping. Also if you crop them a little be fore you post they usually don't flip either. I always preview before I hit submit and you can tell if it is going to flip or not.

Congratulations! Makes all that work worthwhile. It's like having a new Airstream. I'm sure yours will last for many years and provide many travel adventures.

Many of us have a "punch list" when we get back from our maiden voyage. Like maybe a slight plumbing leak, a window won't open, the great idea for a new door lock isn't working, a cupboard door didn't stay shut tight while towing, etc, etc.

Here is my 75 Overlander on its maiden voyage. I want to a club rally. The air conditioner was really noisy, but I jammed a hockey puck under the plastic shroud on the roof it quieted down some.

Vintage Airstreams are such fun and a great hobby.

three trips. around 50 drive hours. temps from 25 to 95. not complete but road worthy. had a couple screws and nuts loosen up but nothing major. this is our first trailer experience. usually we are in tents. it has been nice having a luxury apartment in tow.
