What years did AS make a slideout?

best is I can tell it was 2001 to 2010? and only the 30ft model.

Why are they not producing them going forward?

problems with the units or no demand for them. I think they are neat way to give the AS more interior space making them more competitive in some regards with the SOB's with two slide units.

Some in the 25 ft line of SOB have at least one slide if not two..

Have been looking at slide units and see a couple around for good money it think. My wife, after going through a couple coleman 30 units with slides, is more into the slide thing. We looked at a couple older 30 and 25ft units and she was not impressed.

helpful info appreciated..

Others will chime in but I think it was 2001 to 2008. They came in 30 and 34 foot classics and a 28 foot safari. The safari was not made starting 2001 it was introduced later. Airstream saw the turn in the market coming and started going with lighter units that didn't need the same class of tow vehicle the heavy slides needed. My unit (30 ft classic) has not had any slide issues and most other slide owners will most likely report the same thing. We really do like the extra room the slide gives.

Carl,
The slides were produced for about 10 yrs. Around '98 to around '08. The 28', 30' and 34' had them. The reason for ending production that I heard was they were not "traditional" airstreams. Thus, demand was low. We love our 30' and stay in it 3 months in FL in the winter. It opens up the dinette area enough to keep the trailer from "closing in" on us. BTW, it is the dinette area only that slides out about 20". They are somewhat heavier. Ours with full water and propane weighs a little over 9000# with hitch weight of 890#

The first slide out was built in production at the end of 1998 and the last I believe was 2009 model year. There just was not the demand that was required for the material inventory and fixtures needed to keep on hand.

Schu,

Can you tell us how many were built?

I've got an '07 Classic. Proud of it too.
