What to Offer: A/S Base Camp

Hi,

I am considering getting my first camping trailer and it will be an A/S Basecamp, fully loaded, and need to know what to offer relative to the MSRP.

I am near Portland Oregon.

Thanks a lot.

Farzad, welcome to the Airstream community and forums!

Discounts vary by dealer but 20% of MSRP is not uncommon. I just checked the local dealer where we purchase two Airstreams and they’ve got three brand new 2018’s and two new 2019 models. https://www.ewaldsairstream.com/new-...s-for-sale.php

You might find a dealer in your area with some as well. Or, make the deal and fly out this way, rent a truck from Enterprise and make the trip home!

Thanks a lot. I wonder if the 20% would apply to late models as well as the earlier ones they may need to push out?

You'll always get a better deal on the older model but given today's market, customers are not beating down their doors.

If you're interested, give Ewald's a call and talk to George or Paul. Tell them Jeff & Caryle McCaffrey sent you We don't get any commission but are good customers there.

Offer 30% off of MSRP. You can always come up. 20% off of MSRP would be a good deal but start lower and say NO to any add on’s

It is possible that good deals on Airstreams, better than usual, can be found now.

With campgrounds closed, incomes of many Americans uncertain and retirement savings reduced by the market's beheading, dealers may find few customers in the showrooms.

This could lead to uncommon generosity.

I would think now would be a good time to get a deal. I doubt if they are selling many right now, and they should be eager to make a sale. Do your research!
I keep getting emails from the local car/truck dealers about 0% financing and that they are open by appointment only.
Good Luck.

The value of a thing is what a willing seller and a willing buyer agree it is. If you don't mind walking away from a particular trailer, you can set your top dollar in your mind, and if the dealer can't stay under your number you walk away. This works best on a trailer that is actually on the dealer's lot; not so well on one you will order.

One possible way to deal with ordering is to prepare an "order" for your perfect trailer. Send that to several dealers and ask them how close they can come to that, and at what price. Then you can decide if any of them come close enough to what you want. A detail that wouldn't bother me might be a deal-breaker for you, so only you can make that call.
