Salvage title

Looking to purchase my first trailer and have the opportunity to purchase a 1991 29' Excella at a reasonable price. One concern is that it has a salvage title. The trailer looks to be in excellent condition. Was told that the previous owner did not winterize and everything froze up and had to be replaced. Should I be concerned about that title? Thanks in advance for your input.

It depends on what you plan to do with it. If you're going to own it a long time, and you can get it at a good price, knowing that a salvage title does impact the value of the vehicle, you don't have much more to worry about than any other used vehicle purchase. Seems fishy to me it was totaled for needing to be replumbed and new tanks. Make sure any work was done correctly, get it inspected if possible.

Next thing, call your insurance company and make sure they'll insure it. That might be the biggest wrinkle you'll encounter.

One thing you can be sure of: Salvage titles are never issued for minor, easily or cheaply solved reasons.

You likely cannot get insurance. Check carefully!

Just another perspective from our experience.

We purchased a 65 Tradewind w/salvage title. It had been backed into an house awning and had a significant dent in the upper outer corner. Insurance would not fix it and the awning. The owners chose to fix the awning and the insurance company salvaged the trailer.

Someone purchased it in auction and we purchased it from them.

At that time we did not care about the dent. We got it inspected at motor vehicle and they gave us a salvaged title also but deemed it entirely usable and sound.

When we sold it we were very upfront about the dent, salvaged title and showed the damage in photos. The new owner to be did not care as the damage affected nothing inside.

Yes it likely affected our resale but the trailer had not been restored and we were not looking to make any major money.
