Looks like an early 50's Liner to me...Check w/Bill Kerfoot (wkerfoot) he has one. Could also be a Sovereign of the Road or Commodore, but they usually have one door. Do you have the VIN#?

Looks like it's in GREAT shape from the picture...but that pic may not be the same as the one you talked about with the grass growing up around it. Regardless, looks like a nice find - restored they certainly are "lookers"!

I agree with Shari, a 29' 1954 Liner. The tip off is the vertical front and rear caps. The window locations are different than mine. Please post the serial number, all of the 1954 Liners that I have seen are from Ohio.

With the two door and the fact that they have righthand hinges, outside looking in, tells me that this is a picture of a custom trailer... 54 0r 55 is my guess... Also notice the number of windows! Airstream typically never had the door swing in front of windows, another sign that it maybe a custom trailer... In any case it is a Very cool find!

This is the one parked in front of the JC Service Center that I posted over a year ago. I recognize my photo.

The OP is referring to a different one, sitting in a field somewhere. It's still got my same filename.

So...do you remember what it is?

That's what I suspected...looked to be in too good of good shape for sitting in a field with grass grown up around it for years.

Taillights say 65 to 68 but windows say 69 +. Very odd and rare model with double doors. The length looks like a 31 ft Sovereign.

To note that the only two things it has in common with the trailer you showed us in the first post is that it's an Airstream, and it has two doors. It's a much younger model.

elkay12,

Have you had contact with the owner yet? Do you know if it is actually for sale?

I think that's a custom made pre-divorce () model. The trailer has a center wall and the husband & wife can come and go from their own doors without having to see or speak with each other!

Sorry - on the serious side, I would be very curious to see what the interior layout is like. Maybe a custom commercial model?

id say yes, pending on asking price. Any Airstream is worth fixing IMHO.

Having two doors is kinda nice , if you travel with family. If it is a rear Bedroom layout with a separate entry , it will be convenient. put the kids asleep up front and you dont have to worry of waking them up, once you go to bed.

Wonder if it has a courting couch instead of a gaucho.

Very cool

That is a 1948 or 1949 pipe frame 28' Whirlwind, not a later Liner. These are rare trailers with only a handful ever built. The best confirmed example is the one in this photo that is owned by Airstream Inc. and that is located in front of the Airstream Office in Jackson Center, OH.

Several years ago I ran across a classified ad for a desert find Whirlwind that was specifically being sold overseas. The seller would not even return my email as a U.S. citizen. That one had one door on the curb side and the other door on the street side.

I have heard of a third Whirlwind shell that is located one of the Airstream restorers. Rumor has it that that one is in such rough shape take it would only be good as a template to make another from scratch.

That is exactly what this one is, Joe. The poster just yanked the photo to show what he thought he had found.

Turns out what he really found was a '68 or so custom Sov with two doors.

This is a 1967 or 1968 30' Sovereign due to the tail light housings and water heater patch on the rear street side corner. It has been modified by the addition of a second (rear) door, newer (1969+) windows, and a big blue stripe. My guess is that perhaps this trailer was modified to be the "Mail Trailer" for Airstream or WBCCI rallies. I have never seen it before, but I have seen other similarly modified Airstreams. Otherwise, it could have been modified for other purposes (e.g. a storage trailer or rolling kitchen, etc.). Perhaps photos of the inside would help clear up the purpose of the modifications.
