Newbie needing help!

I have been searching the classifieds for a used AS long enough to see the prices increase, once the covid situation became a part of life. I’ve been looking for a 25-27’ with twin beds, and found one yesterday in Midland, TX, 6.5 hours away. This is my first AS, so I would love to have an inspector look through it with me. I have seen several inspection lists, which are enormously helpful, although some of it is foreign to me.

The photos in airstream classifieds look great, it’s a 2010 flying cloud, FBT, stored enclosed X 7 years, under cover for 3. $49K. One AC (that is a tiny concern, I spoke with a salesman once who said anything over 25’ should have 2 units), a blue ox no sway, upgraded mattresses, really checks the boxes for me!

How do I find inspection assistance? I don’t see an AS dealership near midland, TX. Also, should I have concerns about a 10 year old unit? Am I even asking any of the right questions?! (Geez!) I am an RN, on call this weekend, no day off till next weekend. Would be so very grateful for any guidance, here.

Thanks so much,
Carol

There is a list of people willing to do inspections in this community somewhere on this site. I signed up for it but I have no idea how to find or search that list. I bet someone else here knows.....

Look at the upper left of the page and find “Portal”. Click on that. When the next page comes up look on the right side of the page. You will see “Airstream Inspectors”. Indicate the state and type of inspection. That should give you who’s available around that area. Good luck

Hi Carol, good luck and don't worry about the AC. We have a 27 with one 15K BTU unit and it's all we've needed. One caveat is that we haven't camped in TX or FL yet! I was in Bakersfield CA a week ago and it was 110 degrees at 5PM and the trailer cooled down nicely once we hooked up.

Super trouper, I am really glad to hear it! My better half said he was not concerned about just the one unit, but it’s wonderful to hear from someone who has that size, and has experienced one AC, and has been comfy! We will NOT be doing any summer camping in TX, or FLA, I can promise you that! So grateful for the input- thank you! Carol

Here in the heat and humidity of Louisiana in our driveway under partial shade the past two days broke 99 with a 78-84 degree dew point, ugh! Anyway just one of the two 13,500 BTU ACs kept up with the heat and humidity. Out in full sun going in and out we have needed both to keep the temperature below 80.

Didn't touch the refrig but our model stayed cold also, below 41.

Hey bayou biker Brian!

This is VERY reassuring intel, for sure! Soooo relieved to hear it! We had a list of “would like” to have, and a shorter list of “must haves”, and I now feel comfortable moving 2 acs to the former list :-)) I am so grateful for the input from everyone here! Thanks, Brian!

Happy to help. Good luck with the search. If you see anything down here near the Mississippi Coast, I'd be happy to take a look, especially as an excuse to visit the beach or even west to Lafayette for a bit of Cajun dancing. Happy trails.
